Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Just completed this tonight and so have now finished all 3 games. I enjoyed them as story experiences I must say, and they are all very pretty too. I am not a perfectionist on games so I will not be playing it through again, nor going after achievements, but as a game I did enjoy it. The first game I completed very quickly and did not stop, the second game took me 3-4 restarts to get into to be honest, and the last I started on the back of the second so just pushed on through. A few annoying bits at times and fairly predictable too, but good games none the less.

"What difficulty were you on?

cant remember how it goes but its something like

Puzzels = hardest one
Traversal? = hardest one
combat = one down from hard

that way you get no hints with "survival instincts" or paint everywhere for traversal. much better way to play.

The piranhas was what I feared the most on the hardest difficulty. Then of course the very first level jumping in the dark. That sent my heart racing.

Just started playing through this, have just hit the hidden city and my FPS are getting hammeredon my 1070, im only running 1080p high and its struggling

Crikey, are you overclocked?

This is on my 'next to play' list, assumed I'd be fine with my card, now I'm not so sure, especially at 3440 X 1440.

What AA/AS/Texture/Quality settings are you running?

Wont let me add pictures ? but im only on high with some settings knocked down to normal.

Turn off/down ambient occlusion, and hair. Not familiar with the game but they're often performance killers.

I'd also see if turning off volumetric lighting, tesselation, screen space reflections and/or texture filtering helps.

How come you aren't you overclocking? These days basic overlclocks on a GPU require absolutely no effort, and can make a difference. It's effectively free performance. Hell just putting your power limit to max should boost your clocks.

As long as temps are fine I'd give it a go, the card will self limit anyway. I've got quite a heavy OC on mine and it makes it feel a lot snappier in chuggy scenes.

Il have a go at changing some settings, pretty disappointed in my 1070 these days :(

Ive just never overclocked before so ive never tried it on anything ever lol

Ive just set it to direct x 12 and nows its running a lot smoother. Im getting 60fps now in that area with no dips

Oh how awesome. I always assumed the ten series cards would be back at dx12.

Overclocking GPUs is literally as easy as downloading a program, and adjusting 1 to 3 sliders. Until you get into custom cooling and fine tweaking. Or shuntmods, bios flashes etc

It's so simple I feel guilty calling it overclocking.

I know i thought 12 made things worse but it sorted out all my issues.

I might look at overclocking but im sure it wont give me that much better performance in games i wanna play but are waiting on the new gpus

Depends how you look at it. Overclocking should put you almost in 1080 territory, depends if you see that as an upgrade, considering its free.

Yea i see what you mean, if its free why not spend sometime trying to overclock. I might have a tinker around and do some research on overclocking on my week off

These days it's a two minute job, longer if you're really pushing it and stress testing for long periods.

Good guide here : https://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/gtx_1070_overclocking_guide/

It's nothing like it used to be, or overclocking other components. Boost does most of it, you're just keeping the clocks closer to theoretical boost depending on environmental factors.

Thank you for the link il give it a read through and if its as easy as you say then no harm in trying. Cheers

Just installed the game and getting a lot of stuttering within the in-game menu, havent even played it yet. Tried the various things that I found for stuttering but no luck (i.e setting to high prio for the process, changing the nvidia control panel settings, in game graphics setting to medium etc.). Any of you guys experienced the same ? Current setup is i7-7700k @4.8ghz, 16gb RAM, GTX 1070. When running benchmark, it was the same although frame counter did not show a drop in fps below 50 odd.

Just had a look and it's as smooth as butter switching options within the game menu.

Running an [email protected], 24GB RAM, 1070.
