Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Pre-ordering is fine and no risk (in most cases !! ) disclaimer

Steam let you play for just under 2 hours no quibble refund.

Origin give you the option of refunding upto 24 hours after you first launch the game.

I've used these features numerous times with no problem.

You can always use this to 'demo' said game then refund and buy cheaper from another source - win win -

Or they could just allow the first 2 hours to be played for free or put out a demo, but you know why do that when you can take the money first. It's hard for old schoolers that have memories of demo disks and the like to forget not just buying stuff on blind faith. It looks to play the same, but could feel completely different.

I'll back out now as I cba with all the pre-order and day one stuff. I'll pick this up the same as I picked up the previous two. In sales for when I have the time (and the hardware) to play them.

Someone is currently streaming the PS4 version gameplay for this ..... Its been openly sold in many European countries since yesterday on console & the physical disc is playable as soon as you install. Review embargo is in a few hours on the 10th. I simply could not believe how poor it actually looks. After 1.5 hours most of the game looks extremely dull & lifeless with lots of brown muddy textures & very weak looking water FX. If your thinking of pre-ordering I would advise to wait & see as its not looking like its a graphically interesting game at this stage. Square Enix claim this game cost $75-100M to make & a further $35M to market  based on the actual gameplay I have just seen for 1.5 hours I would say they were robbed blind :(

Sorry, I'm going to have to disappoint you yet again in this thread because I've already preordered it and am looking forward to more of the same gameplay as the previous tomb raiders and I still dont care about how shiny the graphics are or whether it has gimmicky raytracing :)

Its not going to disappoint me at all why would it! I am just trying to highlight the way this game is being marketed to the unsuspecting (not made by the same team as the last 2 as per this lengthy article):
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...ave-to-try-new-models-for-single-player-games
"Although Eidos Montreal has worked on all of the Tomb Raider reboots, it has been in a support capacity with Crystal Dynamics taking the lead. That's not the case this time.

"We started this game together," Anfossi says. "We started at the end of 2015 when they were delivering Rise of the Tomb Raider. So there was this transition at the beginning, where we were working together. After that it was a question of timing. They started to focus on The Avengers, so we continued along with Shadow of the Tomb Raider and developed the game primarily in Montreal.""

Yeah I'm properly excited, bought the Croft Edition for £49 last night and preloaded it. Don't normally buy fancy editions, but the last two games have been probably two of my favourite games of the last decade in terms of enjoyment, story and replay value.

More the marketing side of things actually but yes the graphics look exceptionally dull & murky art direction wise it looks sub 2013 reboot game so far (after watching over 3 hours of it now).

Why on earth would you watch over 3 hours of it and post slagging it off all the time when you clearly don't like it?

I genuinely don't understand that, not a dig just confused as to why anyone would do that.

Watching a few hours cost me next to nothing way cheaper than pre-ordering the £79.99 full content edition which is going to take more than the 2 hours allowed for a full refund! As there are no demos anymore effectively its the only other way to see through the overhype of paid for reviews or players who need others to convince them that their pre-order is a valid purchase! This game screams fail on so many levels. Its partially Microsoft's fault they paid the entire dev bill on the last game as it was a Win 10 Store & Xbox One launch title so it had an impressive budget which translated well into the actual game & amount of content created.

Dont know about fail, I guess really fail or success is a subjective thing, if it plays anything like the previous two titles then I will enjoy it and wont view it as a fail. I simply dont care which dev team was behind it, nor do I care if its shiny looking, all I care about is the gameplay and as long as the gameplay is similar to the gameplay that I enjoyed in the previous two titles then thats precisely what I will enjoy :)

Looks pretty weak here TBH as always the review hype is excessive few will give a bad review as they will not get the next game review copy! Some of the textures & art design are really dated looking especially

I just spent £107.23 on 2 copies of the croft edition + DLC so I am hoping it lives up to the previous games.

The other copy is for the wifey.

Roll on Wednesday
