Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Is this by the same people as the last two tomb raiders? I'm a bit hesitant on it.
As per my post #107 they handed it over to Eidos Montreal to do the coding & most of the development work as they were moved onto a Marvel game instead. This new video comparison actually makes a much better job of showing the gfx on PC 4K ultra maxxed out but have heard from several people now the gameplay & game direction are not quite up to Rise so far its more of the same but also lacking a little even though the graphics are improved the art direction is a little subdued overall.

Glad to hear that its more of the same, thats pretty much what I've been hoping for.

Hope you greatly enjoy it & get your moneys worth. I will still wait it out for a 75% sale £67.19 is just way too much for the amount of content on offer & drab art direction!

I bought it for £32 off cdkeys, so more than happy with the content £ per hour on that price :D

Don't buy the expensive version then, all you're really getting is the season pass which is available on its own anyway if the DLC actually turns out to be any good.

As for the visuals, you're the only person complaining about them. Even the more critical reviews have praised how it looks.

Dont know about fail, I guess really fail or success is a subjective thing, if it plays anything like the previous two titles then I will enjoy it and wont view it as a fail. I simply dont care which dev team was behind it, nor do I care if its shiny looking, all I care about is the gameplay and as long as the gameplay is similar to the gameplay that I enjoyed in the previous two titles then thats precisely what I will enjoy :)

When it comes to a change in graphics engine it's not just about looking 'shiny'. The thing I liked about the previous two is that they looked good whilst running well on my mid range hardware. I'm not saying this doesn't, and I'm sure a lot of reviews will be done on top end hardware anyway, but I just wanted to make that point, it's not just about how great it looks, also how well it runs. If it was on the previous engine I would have had confidence in that.

Seemingly it runs much better than rottr while looking a little better.
The link in post 126 goes through the tech comparison.

£67? Croft Edition is £50 off greenmangaming or at least it was when I picked it up. Deluxe Edition was 40

Digital Foundry's analysis of the dull and lifeless visuals, muddy brown textures and poor water effects here:

Oh wait...
Basically, plants are now properly transmissive, meaning light passes realistically through leaves, while also exhibiting a realistic waxiness and specular sheen. Beyond that, the density of foliage is a huge step up from previous games in the series, with the gently blowing plants and trees greatly improving the general atmosphere.

...the team implements a new temporal anti-aliasing technique designed to clean up and eliminate shimmering across the game. It's extremely effective.

Then there is the texture detail - Shadow relies heavily on parallax occlusion maps and high resolution textures designed to add an extra level of realism to its physically-based rendering system.

...the material quality has improved significantly - so for example, the varying stonework on ancient temples is a real highlight, and even mud underfoot is beautifully rendered.

Water is another area that has improved significantly. Deploying stochastic screen-space reflections, there is a greater variation in reflection roughness and detail on the water surface, with reflections no longer appearing as a perfect mirror of the surroundings

If it was on the previous engine I would have had confidence in that.

It is.

If anyone curious about the game and want a peek on it before deciding if you want to buy it, CohhCarnage is playing the game at 08:00 his time tomorrow morning, the 12th September. Think that be around 13:00 (1PM) UK time.
