Shaking hands with women

Most women I've encountered for some bizarre reason hold four fingers out horizontal and facing down instead of vertical and facing me. I end up just having to grab their fingers like a sheet of paper.

Lost it at this one :D. I do always wonder what they want you to do when they hold their hands out like that though?

What's most embarrassing is when you go for the shoulder / top of the arm touch with both hands as you lean in to do the cheek to cheek thing, only to realise they have lifted their arms to do the same and you go and grab two handfulls of side boob.

OMFG done that at least twice. :o

Twice:eek: you're not trying hard enough dude!

How is it supposed to be done? I either feel phalanges clicking beneath my grip and feel guilty, or arguably worse I present them with the dead fish and feel sheepish when I receive a stronger grip than I anticipated. Does anyone have any advice for me please? I feel like getting to the bottom of this is one of the more pressing concerns in my life right now.

Go in with the dead fish and tighten up if they go in with a firm one.

Attractive women - finger shake, google how the queen shakes, this is acceptable.

Men and butch women - confident full handshake

In the closet homosexuals - death grip. We know what you mean, be strong, your time will come.

I can think of a few explanations:

1) They want you to kiss the back of their hand as was the custom in the past.

2) They don't know why and they're not thinking about it, but it's a leftover from that custom.

3) They're doing it to see how you react to it.

My guess would be mostly (2) most of the time.

Although I've not noticed any difference between men and women in this context. Simple handshake every time as a meaningless custom. Yes, yes, you don't have a weapon in your hand and neither do I. Was there any possibility that either of us might?

I'd not be so confident these are the origins of the handshake, and anyway it has no relevance to modern customs.

The way to greet women in an office situation is to lightly cup both of their breasts as though you are weighing fruit whilst nodding thoughtfully and whispering "nice, very nice indeed" to yourself, just like how you would greet a man. Don't be sexist, bro, chicks deserve better than that (but not the same pay obviously unless they're uber hot).

When meeting women in social situations for the first time, I still shake their hands rather than go in for the cheek bump. Maybe this is a terribly stiff British part of me coming out, but do people really want to rub cheeks with a complete stranger, even one as attractive as I?
