Shall we play a game? Ebay tape library

113mb i think is about as much as you will get out of an lto5 with an lto4 tape so atleast it maxed out.

2nd hand switches are always a pain as there never set back to default settings.

Yup, had it with a few things - but then it's a good way to learn!

Ordered an LTO-5 tape now i know the drive isn't a duff.

I worked for a computer remarketer and it was part of the service to wipe everything, reset everything, and if we couldn't ensure data protection, destroy it.

On the second firmware update for the FC switch - about 6 to go. Seems strange you can't just jump to the latest!

Well that's annoying - on 5.2.3 (It's an HP A8000A) and now it won't let me log into the web browser (Java issue) and the CLI firmwaredownload isn't working either now. Meh.

Java is a right pain with older kit.
That switch must have had a well out of date firmware lol.

Doesnt let you log into how wrong info or times out

Not got anywhere with the switch - it's stubbornly refusing to talk to any FTP server :(

But I have made some progress with the library - the SAS drive is happily talking to my VEEAM server even though the library is on the host and VEEAM is on a VM.

And now the FC drives, as a separate logical library, are also showing to the VEEAM server. Without the switch, so that was a waste of money  :p

I quite like the ease of use of the library - I'm starting to think I may keep it.

Got it working quite well now. Using LTO4 tapes for backing up the smaller VMs - DC etc. and LTO5 tapes for the actual data from my fileserver.

Still trying to work out how to rotate the tapes easily though so I can take a set each week offsite.

No. Not sure if it's possible with hyper-v. But the ease that VEEAM installed its agent I'm not too bothered :)

Oh right I missed the Hyper-V thing completely. I was going to ask how you'd managed to get a SAS or FC library working in a guest in VMware because everyone at Veeam has told me to just grab a cheap R330 or something for tape writing duties.

I probably didn't specify Hyper-V :) I have tried VMware briefly but didn't get on too well with it. Too indoctrinated into windows world I guess!
