One of the finest albums of this ilk (possibly ever) for me is:
On The Might of Princes - "Sirens"
It's stunning.

Also, I'm sure you've probably already heard them but try:
Texas is the Reason - "Do you know who you are?"
Quicksand - "Manic Compression"
Bullet Union - "s/t"
Thursday - "Full Collapse"
As Friends Rust - "Won"
Planes Mistaken for Stars - "s/t" (again - this one is a stunning EP)
Hot Water Music - "No Division" or "A flight & a Crash"

and super 90's emo album goes to either
Elliot - "False Cathedrals"
or
Sunny Day Real Estate - "The Rising Tide"

I bloomin love all of the above albums.

Underoath - They're only chasing safety.

Bloomin' awesome :)

Hmmm, come to think of it that might not fit Sic's requirements, whoops...

Sist_si, dunno if Planes Mistaken for Stars really do either
Shame they've broken up now too :(

Yep, this is true! :)
I think the good bits of the bands he mentioned are all in the ones I mentioned....in essence, some lovely melodies and killer riffs :) No schooling intended!
That PMFS EP was a very different affair to their normal stuff though. Not as harsh and as a group of songs I think perfect.

That list reminds me of being 16 again. Good choices :)

Definitely don't think Her Words Kill are emo. Simply because I've seen them on a number of occasions and they've never perceived themselves as emo.

Out of interested, how do you know them?

I didn't write them in here because I thought they were emo, I just think they're definitely worth checking out :). They put on a great live show too.

I'm pleasantly suprised someone else even recognises the name to be honest heh, they were quite involved in the local band scene around here a couple of years back and Luke Pickett is a bit of an "idol" to most 14 year old girls round my way at the moment.

How did you find out about them?

Urgh I feel the forums are tainted with all this talk of emo rubbish

I feel that the forums are tainted with your presence every time I see you post, but I don't go on about it.

Cheers for the recommendations guys, keep them coming!

finch - what it is to burn (perfection through silence)
taking back sunday - where you want to be (a decade under the influence)

edit* not shamefully good, just guilty pleasures
