Hi guys,

I have to shave every morning for my job (don't we all??) but shaving this often leaves me with a bit of shaving rash. Not spots, just an irritation. Is there a gel which any of you have used with any success to prevent this from happening?

Inb4 'shave with an axe and acid you gay', and so forth.

Thank you :D

What razors are you using? I used to get really bad razor rash until I stopped using all these stupid multiblade ones and went for the cheap as chips 99p for ten single blade razors, rash gone.

Using Gilette Fusion. I think using the cheap ones is a bit risky? (Risky in terms of rash, not their quality). Thanks though. And to you, Von.

I used to have murders with shaving rash. I now wet my face and put abit of nivea soft cream on it (only abit though) then King of Shaves alpha gel well rubbed in, shaved off with a mach 3. Works a treat for me.

Dont use gel,use a decent soap or cream preferable applied with a brush. Then shave using decent technique rather than scraping it all off in any random connection.

I think my method is fine; it's a perfectly fine shave, but I always feel that my skin is not taken care of during it, which then leads to the shaving rash. It's not a huge problem, but when dealing with new people daily, it's a bit annoying.

I use king of shaves shaving oil, makes a big difference.

I also use a Wilkinson Sword classic single blade razor. Works better then anything else I've tried.

I also find not shaving at the weekends (or maybe once on a Saturday evening before going out) helps.

I will give the KoS stuff a go I think. I've heard nothing but rave reviews, so everybody can't be wrong. Off to the shops I go. Thanks you lot.

Method =

Hot water
Shaving foam
Shave, with grain, then against grain for tricky bits
Cold water
Moisturiser

In the words of Mr Ramsey; Done!

A good soap/cream are a million times better than any gel/foam,

I always had trouble with a rash after shaving but since swapping out my gel for Taylor of old bond street cream and using a good moisturiser after the shave I haven't had a rash at all, even after going against the grain.

I was just about to suggest that, I started using shaving soap earlier this year, not had any problems at all with my skin since. I use Wilkinson sword stuff but also a decent brush for applying it. It lasts ages too so it's cheaper and it's more portable as you're not worried about spilling anything or having it spray inside a bag.

I can't recommend shaving soap enough to people with sensitive skin, however if you still have problems - make sure you're changing blades regularly AND dont' try to shave too much at once without rinsing the blade out. Hair is only tugged by blunt or jammed blades and they only jam if you're trying to shave too large an area.

Also - never shave against the grain, if you're having problems shave at an angle but still mostly with the grain, hairs don't grow uniformly but you will get them all by changing angle slightly - but there's no need to go completely against it.
