Shell V-Power

Paul Blamire. The issue is that V-Power goes off much more quickly. If you get new stuff it's great, but if it has been in the garage tank for four weeks, it has dropped its octane rating. Tesco 99 RON either turns over faster, or lasts better. Either way, the octane rating is much more likely to be what is intended. The best V-Power is probably a little better than the best 99 RON, but the average probably works the other way around.

Interesting, thanks for sharing.

I definitely notice a difference on V-Power, mostly at lower RPM. And the figures say I do more MPG on it, whether this counters the price I don't know.

As for BP ultimate, I've always found it to be particularly flat.

Nothing but in mine.. makes my car slightly more flatulant :D

Performence is noticibly increased too :)

Is there any point in running it in a car not mapped to use it? Or is it all in the mind?

Yes there is, even if it not mapped for it, Shell V-Power is cleaner (better refined) than normal unleaded - so your internals will be cleaner/more efficient/last longer. However I have been informed you have to keep using it for a couple thousand miles to notice the true benefit.

Nice phone, whats the retail on one of those?

It really depends on how dirty your engine is. The premium grade gasolines have a higher detergent loading then regular. Regular is mostly speced to 'keep clean' an engine's injectors and valves so they dont get dirtier then what they were. The premium stuff usualy is billed around 'clean up' performance so removing already present deposits (and may also contain lubricity additives to help prevent scaring).

Cleaner parts = better spay pattern and less 'wetting' = closer to original performance. But all this can take in excess of 30h of constant simulated driving patterns so it wont knock your socks of from the pump. :p

Skimpy beardy do u mind me asking your age? Been looking at 328is and wondered if your around my age20 and if so what insurance company your with also are they a lot to run and what mpg could I expect. Sorry for the pop quizlol

Tesco store naff all 99 ron fuel as i have found out working in the garage at the store i work in recently, so probably gets refreshed more often so probably does get new supplies in often. Never normally have more than 10% of one of the tanks full

yeh our Tesco99 only accounts for 5% of our sales.....

BP Ultimate gives me far better throttle response at lower revs than V-Power, BP Ultimate also makes me car sound less like a tractor so it gets my pennies every time

Been a shortage of VPower Unleaded around my area - don't know why, but the upshot is that i've had to use standard unleaded from Shell for the time being in the Lotus :(

Most modern vehicles have ECUs which can learn to best handle Super Unleaded as opposed to standard Unleaded, the Lotus ECU has been verbally stated by my stealership as being a gradual learnt change. So longer time using Super vs. Standard will result in better economy/performance in the long run.

It's more to do with ignition timing than mixture, so it will adapt somewhat instantly, based on knock sensor readings.

Any changes to mixture will be quite quick, but very minimal, based on lambda readings.

Any cleaning effect will takes miles and miles, depending on how well the car has been treated.
