Shenmue I & II Re-releases

I can remember been hooked on shenmue 2 when i rented it from blockbuster movies back in the day, played it non stop over the weekend as the story was amazing but sadly never completed it. my only gripe is that i don't know if i'd have the patience for it now as it does involve a lot of walking around and doing pointless activities, where as when i was younger i enjoyed the smaller activities such as moving boxes in a 'virtual' job but i doubt i would anymore:p

Remaster confirmed, 1 and 2 on same package and released this year.

Faithful to the originals, trailer on eurogamer.net.

Not sure how to feel about this. Massive Shenmue fan but can't help thinking the older games might actually damage the third installment's reputation... The controls haven't aged at all well and the pace is... not everyone's cup of tea.

Will buy again though

Edit: cancel that, all aboard the hype train, CHOO CHOO :p

I know what you mean tho.

Some games are defiantly better as a great memory but I'm excited to play this through again.

Hope it doesn't sour the memory, as I think shenmue has got to be in my top 5 games ever.

i'm with the 'never got into shenmue' club (not saying it was bad, I tried it when it came out and didnt dig it). I love the look of yakuza though, shame it isnt coming to pc anytime soon

The Dreamcast still leaves a bad taste in my mouth as I saved up to buy one and the next day I was watching a computer game show on Channel 4 called 'bits' and they were announcing it had been discontinued and were lowering it into a grave lol. This was before I had a PC and the internet, so had no idea. The guy in Game that pushed me to buy it also kept trying to sell me Shemue every time I went in but I was too annoyed I had just wasted £150 on the console so never did buy it. Then the Dreamcast broke a couple of years later after hardly any use, so I never did end up playing it. This was also around the time I decided to build my first PC for some reason...

It looks a bit too dated now and without the nostalgia I'm not sure i'll get on with it.

Dreamcast was one of my favourite consoles of all time.

I loved Shenmue at the time but I remember there being a lot of waiting around and running back and forth because the map was so small, not sure I could play through it again. I never finish 2 though so I'll be picking this up.

I think it was the Dreamcast that I was waiting for Half Life to be released on, but every time I went into Game it was still marked as available soon, then eventually they just cancelled it :(. That was another thing that pushed me to move to PC as I really wanted to play it after seeing a review in a magazine.

I have no information to back this up, but my gut tells me this is going to be a sloppy port and just an excuse to cash in on the desire for an old classic.

I have a feeling that 21:9 wont be supported out of the box, and unless someone finds a fix for it I will not purchase it until then.

I enjoyed these games back in the day, but it takes something special (or a purchasing mistake of mine) to buy a game with zero chance of 21:9.

I have fond memories of the two Shenmue games, but having experienced a little of the Yakuza series (the two PS2 games), I can't imagine that Shenmue will hold up very well. Nostalgia is probably left as just that....they were groundbreaking at the time but under a modern eye I worry that they'll pall in comparison to other games.

Couple of the most overrated games in history. They were ***** back then and they'll be even worse now. Pass...

There's always one!

The Shenmue series influenced the open-world genre, and pioneered several game technologies. It had an astonishing amount of detail for a game that originally debuted in 1999.
