Shenmue I & II Re-releases

There's always one!

The Shenmue series influenced the open-world genre, and pioneered several game technologies. It was also ahead of it's time in size and scope, and had an astonishing amount of detail for a game that originally debuted in 1999.

Lol, aye right. I think you should put down your crack pipe and take off your rose-tinted specs.

I have very fond memories of this game but I imagine it's aged dreadfully, I will buy again for the nostalgia but I'm sceptical it will be any good. From what I remember it's similar to LA Noire controls wise but QTE GALORE and more Fork Lift Truck driving.

Dreamcast though was a classic console, shame they ended it but it had such a decent line-up. Remember they had a game called Confidential Mission which was a beasty Time Crisis!

Compared to Deus Ex that came out the following year:

I rest my case! :p

You can take this with a pinch of salt, but I was informed by an 'insider' that Shenmue 1 & 2 would be announced at SEGA FES 2018 the day before it happened. He said the project originally started as a full HD remaster, but the plan was eventually scrapped due to limitations of the engine. (His reasoning was that the game is mostly Dreamcast assembly, which is a nightmare to port.)
Incidentally, he stated that it's scheduled for a September release, and that it's currently in beta.
He also specified that it would use all original assets, but would have modern resolution support and an improved interface. It would also be 1080p30 (locked) on all platforms.

This is on steam now. Both Shenmue 1 & 2 together. Release date is 21 August 2018 so not far away.

Picked up a key elsewhere for about £16 and activated steam.

Lots of nostalgia with Shenmue games from childhood, had to have it in my steam collection :D

I remember playing the first one and getting stuck in a seemingly endless cycle of forklift truck driving. It was only after several weeks of diligently performing what was quickly becoming a second vocation, that I realized I'd hit a known bug.

Yeh I was stuck on that for a few days, turned out i was just going round a building the wrong side than it was expecting me to.
Really annoying.

Both games locked at 30 FPS.

Funnily enough, I mentioned this in my post on April 24th:

@Bishie If you can, please update the thread title :)

I don't think I can?

I don't think I can? I might have to ask a moderator.
Sure you can. Unless something has changed in the past few days. Basically since the forum got upgraded, the thread creator can edit the title. That’s why I asked you ;)

Just checked, I can edit my Resident Evil 2 Remake thread’s title, so you definitely can. It is under thread tools.
