Is this a remake of the James Clavell classic starring Richard Chamberlain?
It’s has the same characters so I assume it’s the same story, yes. The original was superb, I’ve been looking forward to this for a while, ever since it was announced and it’s nice to finally get a rough idea of when it’s going to be on.

I loved the book and I really like the casting for this film (never saw the 80's version) so I'm eager to see how this pans out.

I don't know how many of you have read the book but I loved it and I can't wait to see a big budget adaptation of this.

Fingers crossed they are relatively accurate to the source material

oh yes please. loved the 80's version with RC. never actually read the book so might have to look into that too.
Recommend to read the book, it's actually the start of Clavell's Asian saga, all really good books with maybe the last being the weakness.

Also the 80s show is quite faithful to the book and was remastered in the last few years so there's a decent fidelity out there.

The above trailer looks re-imagined rather than a remake.
Actually might be more of a remake than I first thought, there's quite a few recognisable scenes in the trailer.

I started the second book in the series but couldn't get on with it. The language was hard to follow/get into.

Tai Pan? Yeah, I struggled through it once but it's not a book I'll ever re-read.
