Should Christmas be cancelled?

It seems that the religious significance of Christmas now upsets a lot of faiths in the UK's multicultural society. Should Christmas be cancelled and call it "Turkey Day" or is that political correctness gone too far?

Where's the proof that Christmas upsets lots of faiths? I'm from a Sikh background and there has been no talk of being unhappy about Christmas. In fact many Sikhs have adopted the practice of giving gifts on Christmas. Most even call it Christmas.

It's such a non story and yet there is alway some sort of belief that people of other faiths want Christmas cancelled/renamed.

Why?? There is no law stopping other religious festivals, its only more apparent and seemingly forced because you see it in shops. If shops could selling millions of £ worth of merchandise advertising Hanukkah they would.
Christmas = consumerism.
If other people don't like that, then dont blame the public, blame the corporations.

I feel like I've just fallen into a troll trap.

I should have perhaps worded it that "some people" seem to think it upsets other faiths. I read stuff in the paper about councils no longer putting up Christmas tree lights in towns because of the one-faith nature of it.

I object, we tend to have beef as its mostly yummier and we're not stuck eating turkey for a whole week.

I say we call it, end of December gift giving time with some food and family involved.

You should stop reading the Daily Mail.

Those "some people" being people who are not of the faiths they claim to offend.

Cancel it because it's upsetting those of different faiths?

No, cancel it because so few 'Christians' themselves can be bothered. It's time off work, a mad dash for the sales and a time to get ****faced for almost all the 'natives' in this country. Cancel it for those, while letting those true Christians give it the dignified celebration any religious date asks of its followers.

Troll much?

this and what religions does it upset? or do you mean upsets over inflated middle aged women with nothing better to do than get offended on other peoples behalf.

It's not just a Christian festival either it has pagan and Roman origins, although I doubt many Romans left to celebrate, but there are pagans.

it's pretty much guaranteed time of work for most people and about the only time of year easy to get family and friends together to have a catch up and some fun. Who cares what you are actually celebrating and doing. it's worth it for the family aspect alone.

And just been looking at recipes and ideas, as some of the stuff takes weeks, well should take months to prepare.
