No not all. It will be horrible for him.

But is in the public's interest not to let people get away with such crimes.

the bottom line is that he shouldnt have broken the law in an extremely stupid way.

Oh, don't get me wrong, if he has hacked into sensitive military and government systems and caused massive disruption as a result then he should face the consequences of his actions but I find 70 years maximum a ridiculous notion when murderers, rapists and paedophiles get substantially less.

I would guess that the fact he has embaraased the US Government is more of an issue than what he has done.

If our police had caught him he would have "accidentally" fallen down some steps then got a ticking off and sent on his way!

oh yeh i agree. 70 years seems very harsh for such a crime. but i would imagine it is there to act as a deterrent to anyone stupid enough even to contemplate it.

You seem to have a very personal side on this due to your cousin is it?

My cousin is British so no i couldn't give a flaying ****

If you was that bothered, you should be happy it was someone "showing off" and WARNING them how insecure it was...

Sure breaki into a back vault to show them how insecure it it try and plee that with a jury.
Or would you rather a terrorist have got threw and actually did some damage...

Retarded and redundant argument, he got caught so would a terrorist if the terrorist is better the wouldn't be caught thus the argument is null.

If you want to compare this don't compare it to murder that's pathetic...

Yet you can compare it to to terror attacks which is basically mass muder, irony eh
He has simply seen someone with there door open on there house, had a look in, and then let them know it was open....

So breaking an entering + trespassing + a few other things due to the electronic nature of the offence (of course for a physical reality it;s also theft as he copied/stole data)

If you leave your door open i can rob all your stuff? I'll remeber that one if I'm ever in front f the ol balily

If you carnt understand that, you need to get your head out your ass

So it;s ok to break the law so long as the other person didn't take extensive measures against it?

Would not wearing a bullet proof vest be justification for murder?

For all those saying beaus it was easy he should be let off, you are aware it would take a locksmith, or a chav with a pick gun less than a minute to get through your front door?

So once I've brken in an nicked your stuff I'm shure you can complain to chub for thier ineptitude.

Didn't the US Government give Frank Abagnale a job after he made a mockery of justice with forged cheques and living the high life ?

Kind of, I believe they employed him but didn't pay him for his services as a form of fraud advisor, it was a condition of his parole.

He was however an American and had a relatively marketable skill, something I don't know if Mr McKinnon does.

If he can hack US systems then I would suggest he may be of use to the foreign intelligence authorities.

if found guilty he should be punished accordingly and fairly

not given an over the top sentence to deter others or stop him from something he "may" do in the future but one that reflects any crimes he has commited

Its america, over the top is all they know.

and yet we have people here baying for murderers to be tourtured to death, hypocrisy eh?

Not really, the difference is the british government probably won't ever go down the death sentence route again. America on the other hand seems to like handing out sentences with large numbers attached to make it look good.

It;s a democracy, it gives what the people ask for, you cannot argue with that.

Yeha but lets face it, saying someone is getting a 400 year sentence or something along those lines does come off as mildly retarded to say the least. Americans all jump for joy at the sound of it, rest of the worlds scratching its head. Saying "life" isn't good enough apparently.
