Should I change or not?

I cant see the X type estates dropping to 4k in you're time frame, but i do think if you could stump up the extra its the best all rounder on that list.

I wouldnt bother with an Aero estate, a boat is a boat, go for the normal 2.3 turbo.

If it is that important then the accord type r is surely no good as it is a saloon?

Boo, i assumed they did a hatch but it looks like they didn't :(

Both good points, cheers :)

Saying that, dads feels pretty wafty, but it's an odd blend of aero and vector

Honestly, it's very little detail. I suspect most people couldn't say much more about me on a personal basis than that I have a female dog owning best friend and that I've just been offered a new job.

We could, you've mentioned loads more, but in the interest of drawing lines in the sand I won't expand on that. I will say that you should always be careful of what you say never, ever, reveal anything about yourself you would not be happy to discuss. It's the safest way. People form opinions about people and the way they do things from the pictures they paint of themselves.

The reason why your car saga is so interesting/amusing/whatever is that every time we have a big thread people make a load of predictions you rebuff then a month later they mostly come true :p

Anyway - you've clarified your intentions and I don't think 6 months away is too early to be thinking about where to go next. The longer you consider your options the more likely you are to make a decision you'll be happy with long term.

Just dont get an estate on behalf of some girl who has a boyfriend ;)

I'm happy to be open and honest, if someone asks a question ill happily answer it provided it's not too personal. You have to admit that the digging and probing has gone unecessarily far in the past though, that combined with my general openness is what led the last thread to be so epic. Nobody wants another one of those, I jut want to talk about cars, isnt that what were all here for?

Predictions? I'm not changing my mind about the accord, if anyone predicted that I'd be in the position I am now the i'd like to talk to you about lottery numbers.

If we could keep the discussion away from my friend it would be good though, it's not fair on her if nothing else. I don't see the practicality requirement as being that unreasonable though, the Accord has had tons of use with a dog in the back and I'd like to be able to continue with that. Saloon or estate also helps with other things the car will be used for and IMO there aren't many compromises

I think it happens for the same reason we cant help but hold off from changing channel if we happen upon Jeremy Kyle. It's just.. intruiging. You end up wanting to know more and you end up getting addicted to finding out what happens next, seeing if your guess was right, etc etc :p I've been on your side of it as well, heck the thread about me running out of talent went to 10 pages, 1 of which was about the car the other 9 about my personal life :p

As for the car, I wonder if you could get an ST220 Estate for about £4k or so in 6 months time?

It's also not really been a saga, in reality. Yes, the thread might have been, but what actually happened in the world of IainD is - replace faithful but boring Mondeo with something more expensive and more fun. Realise that wasn't the best choice given my usage and lifestyle, sell said car 3 months later. It's not a huge deal In the grand scheme, surely?

Arse, I managed to quote rather than edit

Having been looking at them X type estates they are growing on me.

I might get one of those to replace that stupid Peugeot i should never have got for shopping and lugging stuff about.

IS SportCross, if you can find any.

For a few k? Really?

See the edit/accidental quote. I don't think the car situation was interesting at all, was pretty run of the mill really. You could see it as flattering that people are interested in your life, but sadly most of it is malicious or trolling

I've seen an ST TDCI for 4500 not so long ago! So guessing its possible. Remember a hatch would be fine too, which most st220s are...

I think the edit button is slightly to the left of the quote one :p

Not far enough if you ask me

Dad had one a few cars back, albeit a 2.0d. Was pretty nice, although his was blue with blue leather and piano black dash so not jaaaaaaag enough really. He had ordered a pearlescent red one with cream leather and a walnut dash but it turned up on the back of the lorry as a saloon :(

Definatley an ST220 then. Especially as you enjoyed your previous Mondeo.

I'm sure none of the other stuff is malice. I doubt anyone knows you well enough to bear actual malice against somebody they've seen posting things on the internet, or at least I'd hope not! It's just people looking for some amusement, thats all. And of course it'll amuse some and not others :)

What happens is you get a person with a bit of a following (like you) start with a bit of probing for the right reasons, then you get 5 sheep start adding their 10p worth in and before you know 10 pages of rubbish.

I get the impression that everyone is sometimes a bit too keen to start the next 'epic thread'. I mean we had people in here simply posting 'POSTING IN AN EPIC THREAD' when really it was unlikely to be epic - mildly amusing before we got down to business about cars perhaps but... epic?

I'd just get the cheapest decent 3 litre auto in whatever colour to be honest, but they are growing on me.
