Should i get a motorcycle to combat costs?

Ok firstly here is the asda fuel link http://your.asda.com/fuel-prices lets work on a figure of £1.38 a litre

5 litres of unleaded (not premium ) would = £6:90 (as close as i can get to £7)

Your tank holds 17 (seventeen) litres so given a generous 3 litres for reserve that leaves you 9 litres short of a full tank !

5 litres on a 175bhp 2004 zx10 and lets say a limp wristed 35mpg would get you about 40 miles

manufacturers can exaggerate tank capacities just like bhp and dry/wet weight,im telling you what i spend from reserve light coming on to the pump tripping off and its always £7 whats the point in me telling porkie pies?

@the op you can buy a tax exempt/reduced car like a toyota aego, the tax on those is free or something like £20 i think

someone else on here ownes a zx10 maybe they can chime in

Do you stick the fuel nozzle right inside or something?! :p

i could probably brim it but its not far from the top of the filler cap,i must have a zx10 that sips fuel:D

@Cupra those bikes are heavy though, the zx10 is actually lighter than the zx6 model

sure they can .. .5 of a litre and nobody cares but were talking 9 litres !!

so to conclude you either only do 40 miles before filling up (you must be fun on a ride ) .. yer zx10 is really a cg 125 ..... you dont own a zx10 or some other random fact as the maths dont lie .

And i lied according to kawasaki its 17.41 litres so that my .5 back :P

* and what does the weight of the zx12 have to do with how much fuel fits in the tank ? yes it might use more but it will still take the same amount !

i own a zx10,ride it all year round:p theres no way you can get 10 litres of fuel in it once the res light has just lit,6 or 7 tops,it must have a very deep reserve, thats all i can put it down too

heres my bike if you dont believe me:rolleyes:

1.34p a litre i pay

i dont think 4p is gonna make much difference :P

but yes that is a zx10r with a teeny weeny tank (or broken reserve light )

do any of yer other *cough* bikes take more than £7 ?

For me to insure a 1.1 punto costs me £1600 did my cbt not long ago and am saving at the moment to get a 125 which will cost me under £800 to insure then got to buy the gear but in a few years it will have paid for itsself with insurance been cheaper

I agree with persil, it doesn't add up, reserve is about 1 gallon.

It's going to be impossible to get it down to £7 per fill.
Even if you say you have a totaly wrong tank there is no way it'll only be 10 litres and that's still double the £7.

If you"re only sticking 7in then you need to get it check out.

Jealous ? Why would i possibly be jealous of a old sportsbike that has a reputation of trying to kill its rider ? Thats not known for its handling and loves to shake its head everywhere unless a decent damper is fitted .

Im pulling you up because quite often you post crap or just wrong info . You never post pics which every biker loves to do as owning them and showing them off is half the fun . Just look at the post yer bikes thread !! (btw your bike's aint in there .. weird)

You post that your 1 litre bike with a 17 litre tank only takes £7 to fill but you also post that you commute on it everyday so must know it really well but not well enough to notice you keep going to reserve every 40 miles .

You mention other bikes but no details .. Why ? we all love showing our stuff off and sharing pics ... But you have like 1 picture on the whole internet ..dont you think thats kinda weird ?

Search for me on the net and i pop up on at least 10 bike forums .. and pics of my aprilia / gsxr/honda and other bikes/runs/ are all over the net .. You dont seem to exsist .. which is kinda weird .. And kinda backs up my theory on other posts .

you ought to get yourself a propper mans bike then maybe youll know what im on about

If you want me to drop it then why keep baiting me ?

I wont even validate yer comment about a proper mans bike .

I called you out with proper facts and you cant back up anything you said . You offer no evidence to prove otherwise and insist on a fact we all know is wrong . When things get a little hot you think a few childish comments might throw me off.

Its like anything in life be it cars/bikes or pc's . If yer gonna talk the talk then you better be able to back it up as there is always someone sitting on the side to catch you out .

We have had our fair share of dreamers in Motors but thankfully not to many in bikes but when you make obvious incorrect statments with no way to back them up what are we supposed to think ?

Stupid amounts.

I just wear work boots. Fabric jacket of ebay with amour(think it was £50), helmet(£45) in the sales cheaper pair off amour gloves in the reduced bin.

Later on I bought some Kevlar jeans with amour.

You do not have to spend insane amounts on protective gear at all.
I've seen 2nd hand good quality jackets go for £15 on the bay. Although I wouldn't buy a second hand helmet.

Work boots? Fair enough, your ankles, not mine.. ;)

Even if you add boots your talking an extra 30-40. And I'm will willing to take the risk. At least my toes will survive.

Some people o over th top on kit, fair enough for people who go racing or push it hard. But for a person starting off, £200 absolutely top is fine. Not £120 on a pair of gloves. The fact you say cheap ones must fall apart shows how silly it is.

@Glaucus

If you only wear one thing over than a helmet it should be a pair of motorbike boots, The ankle bone gets worn away when you slide down the road & it is one of the very few things they can't mend, They literally fuse (sp?) your foot to your leg if you wear the bone away there is nowt more they can do. My old mate who used to race Proddys told me that & I'll never forget it.
BUT... I do agree with you on not paying silly money, I bought my boots size 14's :D for under 50 quid & they are around 20 months old now. My next set will cost around a hundred quid as I want more metal on them & a tougher top as I'm getting quite low these days & keep scraping the edge o my boots as my feet are so wide. :o

Also earlier in the year I had a ZX7R T reg & I could fit a damn site more than 7 quids worth of petrol in it from reserve. :p

I doubt my ankle bone would be worn away like that. Leather steel toe capped boots above ankle. So would have to wear away leather first. However offers no protection for smashing the bone.

my boots have worn out on the gear change sole, they dont seem to last verylong nowadays?

best, longest lasting pair was some sidi black rain, they lasted me 7 years

@persil your probably right, lets not fall out over it,im just saying what it costs £7,could i squeeze more in? yes but i dont bother

Yup my dad had a nasty accident in 2004 and the impact almost severed the lower part of his leg. His biking boots saved the lag from severing. However, the impact still turned his lower leg to pate (was a combined 100mph impact), and his ankle bone has not regenerated and is so weak he still has to walk with a crutch. That is 8 years later.

I doubt my ankle bone would be worn away like that. Leather steel toe capped boots above ankle. So would have to wear away leather first. However offers no protection for smashing the bone.

I used to work in a factory and I was once told by the safety man that in a side impact the toe cap acts like a sharp vice and can amputate toes. He could have just been scare mongering though! :p

He said that because they are only really designed for things falling on top of them, side crushes are their weak point (anyone in the know care to clarify?).

Also work boots probably wont offer any protection from your ankle/foot being over extended/rotated either.

I'm a big advocate of wearing full biking gear, but it does not have to cost the earth, but quality gear does help if you can afford it. My mate dropped his GS on the autobahn and went skidding down the road (was wet and a lorry driver cut him up) and his gear saved his skin that day.

I cringe when I see people riding in track suits or jeans or shorts/t-shirts and after seeing a few in physio rehab where my dad used to go it is scary how much damage a road can do to your body if you are not protected, even at 30mph.

Buff

When I used to work at Hell on Earth (I mean Toys R Us..) in the distribution center, we weren't forced to wear steel toe caps, because as said above it can act like a vice or crush toes if something were to drop on it.

Would recommend proper bike boots to anyone though, ankles are the trickiest things to fix :p
