I have 2 360s currently, 1 as a spare. Both keeping breaking down. I get free repairs, but getting fed up with the hassle of phoning up, sending them back etc.

Was wondering whether it might be a plan to trade in both consoles (£290) and get a new elite. Bonus would be that my TV currently doesn't acceot 1080P through component, but does through HDMI.

Are the new Elites pretty much bullet proof? If I'm likely to get the same problems I'd prefer to keep 2 so that I can still play the 360 when 1 breaks. Cheers.

The new consoles with the Falcon chipset havent really been out long enough for people to be able to make accurate comments on their reliability. On paper though a smaller die and better cooling should equal less heat resulting in fewer failures. Though the GPU is still the same so it is still possible for it to breakdown.

All I can say is I've had my Elite since the UK elite launch and it hasn't stuttured. It's been used virtually every day (also as a media extender) so I can vouch for it's reliabiliy.

Also this won't be a falcon one; so yours should be even better.

You could trade them both in and get a PS3, the console looks to have finally turned a corner in terms of good ports and there are some big releases next year.

I agree here, I have both the 360 and the PS3 but really lately there's been no reason to turn on my 360... The PS3 is the better choice in today's world..

Plus you'd be getting a blu-ray player included.. Even though you may not think you need one, you will do if you ever get a plasma or an LCD (if you've not already got one) It will happen sooner rather than later... and you'll be yearning for a blu-ray player then !

Plus the 360 elite is NO quieter than the current hardware design junk of a 360... I wouldn't waste my money on one...

If I was in your position I would trade them both for a PS3, however I'm not and I'm stuck with a 360 and no money to put towards a PS3.

And MS have just stolen £40 out my account for Live subs. Nice.

I would hazard a guess it wasn't stolen.
In fact, I'd say you have your credit card on your Xbox account and had it set to buy Xbox Live through it without phoning them to cancel and remove your card.

In relation to thedoc46, I don't turn my PS3 on unless it's for Blu-Rays, I still play all my games on Xbox360, my friends all own 360's and play on them frequently and I think the controllers are perfect for games, however if the OP isn't in this situation, then I'd say try a PS3, if he's disappointed he could always go back.

i see someones a ps3 fanboy

(yes, before u say it, i know im a 360 fanboy :)

Of course he's not he owns both but atleast has the sense to appreciate what the ps3 offers. Both machines now offer plenty that they no longer need to be dismissed by either sets of 'fanboys'

Imo it will be the dual format game that are better than anything exclusive on either format thats been announced.

No, you have to buy all next gen consoles, just so we can argue over numbers of consoles sold ;)

All I'll say is its a great time to be into games, all 3 current gen machines are offering a lot in terms of hardware and quality titles, even the Wii is appealing to me now and not just my kids with titles such as Mario Galaxy & No More Heroes (be nice if I could get them off it to play Galaxy myself)

Don't just go for a 360 without looking at the alternatives too.

The Op didn't mention anything about changing to PS3, PC, Snes, Gameboy etc.

As someone said the Elite's haven't been out long enough to know for certain. In my opinion however I think it would be worth trading your 2 consoles to get one Elite. Firstly because the Elite has a cooler chip it *may* be less likely to fail, secondly common sense suggests that the probability of you buying 3 360's all of which have problems is pretty low.

I would do it, you'll get at least a year's guarantee on the Elite so if it does start to mess up you can take it back to swap for another brand new one.

So basically, yes.

*edit* On a side note, my housemate got a Wii for xmas and I really don't see the appeal. The control system is cool but not exactly revolutionary, and the graphics are pretty poor.

You just made me spit my tea out. :P
Never of thought i would here that in a month of sundays.
But lets not go down that road.

Well i dont see reason in owning all 3, especially owning both 360/ps3, maybe 360/wii as wii is kinda different

unless Halo, GTA, GoW, Mass Effect etc go PS3, then ill never ownz one ;O
