Many subreddits have decided to no longer allow linking to X / Twitter. I personally think Overclockers should also no longer allow linking to X. What say you?

I say that they should be allowed. Just because the owner is mates with Trump is no reason to block it. Should we block the Chinese version because they're in bed with the Chinese government?

Would you not agree that a social media platform run by a member of the US government who will have an office and be working from the whitehouse is somewhat problematic? In fact far more problematic than an independent news outlet or website?

This isn’t even touching on the fact that it is for an administration under Trump who is, objectively, a convicted fraudster and well documented habitual liar.
Is that better or worse than unelected government agencies harassing platforms as Zukaberg recently confirmed?

Better that laws are passed and platforms adhere to them/challenge them in court.

The government was previously run by an unconvicted fraudster who has also just pre-emptivley pardoned his family and co conspirators - which most reasonably people would conclude admits guilt.

Musk is a pillock and his shine will fade soon enough. More importantly and from a usability of the OCUK forums view, I voted yes because unless I'm missing something (possible) you have to have a login to Twitter to see any of the stuff which is posted on these forums, which I don't have. So, I'm often faced with pages of empty space when users Neil79 and JonRGV250 get their Twitter rage going*

* No, I do not feel I'm missing anything in these two examples.

Basically, they're lazy and want to make things on the forum as effortless as possible when it comes to actually moderating (which does raise the question of why even bother wanting to be a mod if you don't really want to mod and just want the power) but then, what's the point of discussion if you're not going to allow natural discussion to occur and keep having to push people on the course the mods want the discussion to go in, it's not really discussion, it's just very limited back and forth and you end up with people thinking it's to do with political bias when they shut down the conversation because it isn't how they want it to go etc
With (frankly) idiotic posts like the above I’m amazed that the mods actually bother to volunteer their spare time to keep the forum not only going but civil.
I mean out of all the things to spend your free time on, just imagine trawling through the dross on SC when it comes to election time (where ever it may be).
Whatever happened to being appreciative?

You see, the conspiracy and fraud you think Biden took part in, is in your head. Maybe you read about it from some stand up gents on Twitter?

In reality, Trump is the convicted felon....alongside vast swathes of his previous campaign staff and associates...

They show up for me and I’m not “logged in”

Edit. In fact I don’t use any social media like twitter and BS. They all still show up though.

I used to love Twitter, it was the only form of social media I ever really actively used for years. As soon as Musk took over it really just started going downhill and gradually got worst week by week. Ended up deleting my account towards the end of last year and they've since made it so you can't even view posts/tweets unless you have an account - so it's no use to me anymore.

Most of the tech group that I follow all migrated over to Bluesky anyway so I don't think it'll be a huge loss having links banned here.

I appreciate they control the spammers and bots and people who are just flat out offensive, but nope, I'm not going to appreciate controlling discussion because of a fear they'll maybe have to clean up aisle 3 for a job they willfully chose to do for free, I mean I get it, they're not getting paid and it's a hassle at times but I strongly disagree with controlling discussion to make the job easier to police, it actually probably creates more work for them because they're having to monitor threads for deviations of discussion instead of just relying on users snitching on each other

Hmm, interesting. I wonder if it's something I've done then because I don't do Twitter and just see blank spaces when it is linked in threads.

Thanks for the heads up :)

What you have just written is not very civil.

Social media really brings the worst out in people, myself included. It can be a wonderful thing quite often but it can also do terrible things to people's mental wellbeing. People saying things in ways that they never would in real life (again myself included).

I try my best not to disparage other users when making an argument as I would like to keep things civil. It would help improve the discussion in here if you would refrain from attacking people's opinions by calling them idiotic.

I don't think it/they need to be banned entirely but I personally would prefer if any media embeds (X, insta, youtube, etc.) had to be accompanied by some actual content or commentary by the person posting it (obviously a few specific threads like YouTube vids thread excepted where that wouldn't really make sense).
