If game companies were to release more advanced demo's like GT5p for a price of around £10-20, would you buy them up? Imagine konami released the first hour of MGS4 for £15 or Rockstar sold first 5 missions of GTA4. Do you think this would work? Would it help the final game or just empty more wallets out?

No, if anything it should be free, you are paying for them to work on the same game twice, lets face it, only Sony do this with GT series because of the time it takes them to make the game, too long infact.

I don't think it would work with many other titles tbh. For starters the game genre lends itself to the approach as tracks are there for repeating and perfecting, each car has a different driving style to learn - games like GTA and MGS ideally need the whole experience, a certain number of missions or a certain distance into the game just wouldn't work the same, once it's done, it's done if you see what i mean.

Secondly, there's the fact that GT games typically have insane amounts of content, prologue itself has more cars/tracks than some full racing games i've played (Motorstorm and NFS:U spring to mind).

I wouldn't pay for glorified demos. A retail release will be worth nothing when the full games released. Only plus to them imo would be getting a few games in before everyone else. Best to just wait if you can resist the urge!!

The reason the PD (not Sony) release a "prologue" version of the Gran turismo is that it was the biggest selling excluvie franchise of the Last Generation, the franchise has sold over 43 million copies and has a huge fanbase. PD are the most respected game developer in the Motor industry, the car companies come to them to ask for "demo" version to show off latest cars models, even ask them design parts of the car (GTR-07 interior) or design Cars just for the game (Citroen). If you took some time and actually read about how much time and effort PD put into the Car models and the track layouts perhaps you would understand why it has taken so long. It will be 4 years since GT4 came out in which time they have totally redone every part of the game, adding online modes, adding damage, adding an active weather system, GT TV and other things new to the GT franchise (not talking prologue but full GT5)
So people want to play GT5 as soon as they can so fans of the game will buy Prologue and others wont it, a bit like how some people got Crackdown (good game though) for £40 just to play the Halo 3 Beta, or some got Z.O.E just to play a bit of MGS2.
Years ago didnt we all pay for demo's anyway? As they came "free" with the mags we used to pay £5 for (mostly only for the demo's lol)

We're finally getting damage, now that i did not know!

thats brilliant and if nothing else it will stop the smackjobs online from using people as a braking aid! (god i hate GT5P online, the sooner there is a lobby update the better...)

I remember in GT4 they said the reason for not putting in car damage was the manufacturers wanted the models to stay intact or else it might look bad for the car  if that really was the case then what a load of bs! - what looks worse for a manufacturer, the fact that their car adheres to the laws of physics by getting damaged or the fact that a car which is a real-life rival is better at cornering etc? if the car handled like a pig which some of em did then good god that is a lot worse than letting the model get a bit smacked around!

GT5p isn't a demo, its more game than most £50 racing games.

It's not really though is it? most racing games have more than 6 tracks, online is pants(at the moment anyway) no car damage. Yes there is quite a few cars but i'd rather have more tracks than cars!

I'd still say it's worth the £17.99 you can get it for online

thats what people are forgetting, GT5P is getting bitched about as if they're charging full price... its 3 quid more than tekken 5 from the psn and i would say you get a lot more game for your cash!

nobodies forcing anyone to buy it, its not like GT5 wont work if you dont have a GT5P savegame... but the only people going on about it are the people that dont have it and trust me, you're missing out cuz its bloody brilliant ;)
