Based on the back of this thread:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18484934

I want people to vote on whether they feel we should close all of the PYPH threads.

This would cover the following threads:
Post Your Picture Here
All the Theme threads (People/Nature/Macro/Landscapes/etc...)

It would not include the Mobile phone pics topic.

If the vote suggests you do want these topics closed, I'll go about sorting it out to get it done.

Might as well try it and see what happens! If people don't really like posting individual threads then we can always make a new PYPH thread with more structure e.g max 3 images, critique a previous set before posting your own, something like that.

Keep the generic PYPH thread for those who just want to share a quick image or two when they don't think it justifies it's own thread, or if they don't want critique.

Encourage members to post threads when sharing photos they want critique on.

Is it possible to have an option when creating a thread whereby you can select 'Critique', so that it shows that this person wants feedback?

Get rid of the themed PYPH threads.

Don't have gear specific threads, again, encourage people to post new threads when asking gear questions, otherwise the whole forum just becomes 5 or 6 massive threads, where posts get lost if they're older then a day or two.

Close the generic one and reorganise the rest.

I would like a themed PYPH sub forum with themes:

People
Places/Landscape
Panorama
Sport
Wildlife/Nature
Machines/Abstract
Critique

I’d exclude wedding pictures from here as we don’t need to get bored by wedding photographers showing off and touting for business. Just give them one thread to hide all their stuff in.

I’d leave the gear as it is. Free posting is better than having a handful for massive threads.

a more structred forum would be much better, just look at TP, its much easier to get around.

TP also has 7k active members and 53k registered users. In a forum that large, some structure is in order. In a subforum of this size, structuring would (and does) simply dilute the posts that we do get.

No option in the poll for "keep open PYPH thread, but close the themed threads"

Don't understand why people want to see the PYPH thread closed its one of the only reasons I started to visit this part of the forum, and ended up buying a camera...

If its closed we end up with 100 threads with one picture and 1 reply, awesome...

At present if you want to go and see all the pretty pictures you just have one thread to go to, I like it like that...

I wasn't aware that theirs anything stopping people from starting there own thread anyway, why does the PYPH thread need closing ?

I doubt there will be a new forum out of this. I'll make that clear right away xD

My view is we may as well see how it goes to be honest as well.

Worst case scenario, is 6 months down the line we realise we need the PYPH thread back, but with added critique rules. Or even two threads. One where it is made clear that there will be no critique and one for critique.

Agreed

I like the generic pyph thread as you get to see a variety of photography styles.

The themed threads are not needed imo, and if they must stay they would be better put into one sub forum.

If some one wants critique on their photos then why not start a new thread and ask for it?

I'd rather see 100 critique me threads with photos and some one trying to progress in photography with useful help from others on the front page than my cameras better than yours etc threads.

I don't like the generic PYPH, I much prefer the themed threads as it divides up the photos into those that I am interested in (landscape, wildlife), and those that I don't want to waste time looking at as they don't interest me (people, sports).

I then still have he choice of occasionally popping into into a people thread if I want to but I don't have to get subjected to photos that don't interest me.

On the other hand, I much preferred the PYPH thread, as everything was in one place (unless it was a specific trip/wedding/day out thread) and I enjoyed looking through, regardless of theme.

Now, with several themed thread, I can't be bothered looking at any of them as I don't feel strongly about any.

If we have a gear subforum, I'd prefer just the one.

I really can't understand why anyone would want the themed threads closed TBH, it is just such a sensible way to organize photos of different categories when people want to post a quick pic but don't want critique.

The last thing we want is hundreds of posts of generic photos that are not organised coherently by any topic, some of which are requesting critique others are just random photos of a pet dog or ducks at the local pond.

Just to be clear and, seen as I'm new to this area of the forum, genuinely not trying to cause an issue, under the proposed rule change if I take 1-2 pictures of something/where/one then I'm to open a new thread and ask for critique or can I ask for no critique to be given? I ask because what if I don't want any as I'm happy with the shots or, conversely, the shots are at the limit of my ability and having much better photographers tell me they're rubbish puts me off posting again? Although not telling someone they're rubbish when they clearly are is equally bad :D

I'll be honest, I don't see what's wrong with the current system. If you've taken a few pictures your happy with and want to share them you can either add them to the PYPH thread. However if you want critique you can just start a new new thread asking for it, which currently rarely happens from what I've seen.

I do agree that maybe there should be a image limit in the PYPH thread (like the 3 max mentioned above) and no image quoting as the GD random picture thread though (of which I'm guilty of both offences :() whilst a Critique Me thread should be limitless.

For the very limited amount of people who post pictures in this forum, compared to TP etc, I think it would quickly become either multiple threads containing only a few pictures and replies or people might stop posting pictures as they don't want to start a thread for the few pictures they've taken.

Once again seen as I'm new to this area of the forum I'm genuinely not trying to cause any offence to those who've been using this area for much longer than myself.

I have a feeling that we will never come to a single common agreement as we all seem to have polar opinions.

I never ever touch the generic thread because there are too many photos I just am not interested in, but I really don't mind it being there because it is just one thread that is easy to avoid. With the themed threads you just select what ever takes your fancy and don't have to skim through pages of generic wedding/pet dog photos to get to what you like.
