Everyone witht dual graphics cards do you not find it slight overkill.. I game at 1080p with a 4850 and can run pretty much everything at max detail..??

I cant imagine dual 5870,s etc are really needed for gaming. I used to run a pair of 5770,s and in all honesty i notice no difference with a single 4850. Although that was a different system.

Try turning on 8 - 16 Super Sample AA :)

I were getting slowdown and sub 30 FPS on the 5770s in Dragon age Origins, DDO, and Oblivion with 8x AA, all those games I had to run a measly 4x AA, and 8x SSAA is much better.

But all that expense to get a slight image improvement...?

I can run DAO at everything max inc 8x AA and i dont notice any slow down...

Its not a slight improvement, go into AA quality and turn it up to the right (left is Multi Sample AA, middle is Adaptive AA, right is Super Sample AA).

There is pretty much no difference between MSAA at 4x and 8x. The next large visual increase occurs by using SSAA, and then at 24x crossfire AA on ATI cards.

I havnt tested Nvidias AA profiles yet, but the improvement over 8x MSAA using crossfire / SLI modes, plus higher quality AA is definately not 'slight'.

Adaptive and Super Sample AA apply smoothing to many more surfaces in the game. I can definately still see a lot of jagged edges with 8x MSAA in a lot of games, it is particularly noticable on the trees in Oblivion where you can see much more improvement from higher AA quality.

I understand were your coming from but £500+ to remove a few jaggies in a £10 game..???

To me it just hardly seems good value for money.. Maybe i,m getting old..

I have to agree there, but then I'm not really a PC gamer. Its more of a work tool for me.

But can it run Crysis? :P

My 5830 does OK, but can only run it at medium settings.

The reason people need 2 5870s and above is for running multiple monitor setups. 3 times the resolution needs a big bump in power.

£350 for a pair of awesome GTX 460s :)

I paid £60 for my 4850... I cant see an extra £290 giving me much more than i have now and i only have one PCI-e slot which restricts me a bit.....lol....

Dont get me wrong i,m all up for multi cores, multi Gpu,s i just think 99% of the time its a complete waste, Until games (More than 1) really start pushing the limits of the hardware its just a bit of a waste...

AA is very subjective. I personally think it makes a massive difference and run most of my games at 32xCSAA. :)

Games like Metro 2033 really do stress most gpu setups and I can only play this game maxed out with 2 x 480's @ 1080p.

I also have a 4850 in another rig and there are a fair few games it cant max out with good frames and high levels of AA.

Top end gpu's never really give bang for buck but they do let you play with max eyecandy for a long time and have a good shelf life. I guess thats the beauty of pc gaming over console gaming, you have the choice of upping the visuals if you so wish and have the budget. :)

replaced the heatsink with a h000ge d14

forgot to take a pic of it but it looks even messier , wating for enough funds to buy a modular psu

Excellent cooler setup. A friend of mine has this cooler with noctua 140mm fans and gets good temps from his i7 setup. :)

Running dual gtx 275's here, actually worked out cheaper than a single 470gtx/ati 5850. One card was an rma replacement for a dead gtx 280, second was bought on mm for £120.00, the shop i got the replacement card from was initially only gonna offer me £120.00 for the dead card. Noticed very good gains in BFBC2 with the two cards compared to the single.

Actually, just to explain, I got tempted into multi GPU setups when I found the ATI 3850 overclocked edition with the nice huge Zerotherm copper cooler on offer for just £70.

I bought two of those. Then when the 4850 got released, there was a similar version with the same nice cooler, and I actually managed to sell my 3850s at £79 each, and picked up a pair of of 4850s at £120 each.

Then the 4870 got reduced in price to <£150. I managed to sell my 4850s for pretty much the same price I paid for them and bought a pair of 4870s. This is the only graphics upgrade I regretted buying because they were too hot and one of them died. I would have been far better of staying with the 4850s with the nicer cooler, even though my 4870s were gigabyte who are a good brand, they used a dinky little Zalman cooler on them, and all that ended up happening was me flinging Emails to gigabyte support complaining about the temperatures at stock speeds on the top card, and a few months later, top one died.

I then bought two 5770s as replacements (I kept hold of the dead one for a while because I didnt want two 4870s again, too much heat), and OCUK gave me a full refund for the dead 4870, and on top of selling the second one, this was a free upgrade, although the 5770s were the same in performance, they were cooler, no longer heating up anywhere near as much, and had DX11.

Now the GTX 460s came out, I looked at them and thought 'those are nice, but too expensive. I'll wait for the 1 Gb one to go under £150 like the 4870s did and consider them then'.

Then I saw the MSI version and went . I saw the SLI scaling in reviews and went :eek::eek: some more.

So I bought :). They were a lot more than I usually pay, but believe me they are sooooo worth it compared to anything else at the same price. Theyre the next best thing after a 5970 or two 5870s in crossfire for much less cost.

Xigmatec Asgard isn't that easy to tidy... the back panel is absolutely crammed on too. Didn't think it was too bad for a first attempt at tidying though.

looking pretty good to me... apart from coming out of the PSU, but there's nothing the case can do about that, unless there's some cover like the HAFX has

At £26 I thought myself lucky to get thumb screws :p!

There's loads of stuff I'd love to do to get it more clean. Extend the 8 pin motherboard cable so I can route it round the top of the PSU; put a hole in the Optical drive bays section so I can feed the 24pin cable in right next to the socket; extend and the two PCIe cables (they're about 6cm short of reaching the sockets when they go through the two big holes, grr). And then put a cover over the mess next to the PSU like you said.

If it was a £80+ case I probably would do all that, but I think I'll just upgrade the case within the next month or so - Am thinking 600t or Define R3. Although modding the Asgard does sound much more fun than buying a new case...
