Never really been into boats until I got to steer one myself last week in Sweden. Was a 15m sailboat and belonged to friends of my girlfriend. I was in love within 30 seconds. Really, just like that I wanted one. Won't buy one while I'm based in the UK but once I leave here, I'll buy one.

They are easy to sail (power). Just like driving a car... on ice... backwards...

No in reality its easier than it sound because there isn't much to hit. :p

Very nice, always fancied a boat but having never even sailed one before or is it driven if it has a motor? Anyway having never 'used' one before the thought of getting one has always been a little overwhelming

Its surprising how easy power boats are to handle.

Start with something cheap and small, something that will take a few knocks when berthing then when you gain confidence, you can go for an upgrade.

Possible a stupid question, but do you need the boat equivalent of a driver's licence?

No, but at minimum I would suggest getting a level 2 powerboat certificate so you know the basics and then radio licence (you need a vhf licence to operate a vhf radio, or at least someone on the boat who has one) and other courses to give you some experience of you want to do anything other than pootling around in good weather near port.
