*** Show us your Dogs ***

KaHn, that is quite possibly the most amazing dog I've seen, she(?)'s beautiful mate :D

want one...

He ;) and thank you, I have put quite a bit of time in to get his diet right for his health/teeth/coat to be right.

He will suffer from HD but as we have caught it early enough and have started him on supplements (which are given to humans for arthritis) he will be fine.

This is my new puppy Jambo. he is now 14 months old, we bought him at 6 months. He is a Labrador retriever.

These are our dogs at my Dads house. Their names are Finn and Dylan, both Scottish Deer Hounds :) Finn in 7 and Dylan is 4.

Finn is the much bigger dog at the front. We haven't really done any shows with them (only once or twice). But, his mum, dad, aunt, unle and brothers and sisters have won at many shows, including crufts. We just aren't into showing them.

Fine looking Lab there :)

I'd love one myself.. just trying to weigh up if it's actually do-able for me or not :D

Thanks. It took us a long time to decide if we could have one again after our last one died 3 years ago. We agreed that we could though, all working out. Labs really need a lot of exercise, otherwise they get fat very easily.

Jambo it quite large for a lab, but i prefer that, especially compared to some of these very skinny, shorter labs that i have seen around in the last few years. :)

Anyone else got anymore tips about elkhounds? We're first time dog owners here and my mum doesnt have a clue at all, thinks its a baby and anythin I know I'm gettin off the internet etc.

We have a 3 year old norwegian Elkhound (the 2nd one we've had) there are pics up earlier on in this thread. they are very stubborn dogs, and very hard to train, In my experience they are very headstrong dogs and very clever. They are not the sort of dogs your going to be able to have off the lead for long periods of time because once they get a scent of something, or something catches their attention they will be off like a shot, they are hunting/tracking dogs so this has to be expected. We tried water training, and like you it worked for a while but it soon became a game for him , we also tried noise training, using loud noises..for example throwing chains on the ground, but this didnt work as loud noises dont bother him a bit (probably because of his breed). We are currently trying a Halty nose collar which seems to be working and he is now walking to heal without it. We are also trying scent games, hiding things in the field and getting him to find them..this seems to be working also. My advice for Elkhounds is that they need to be kept busy and occupied to stop them getting bored. They are happiest when out "working" and love it when oyu play with them. Ours is only 3 and still very much a puppy..any questions let me know i will do what i can to answer them..

P.S..dont worry, hes not going to get to the size of an Akita, Elkhounds are quite small (but powerfull) dogs. His shoulders will prob get just above your knees..

Some more piccys of Pillsbury and Sully.
Pills is now 12 weeks old, been a rough week for him, we noticed a lot of shedding of hair to the point he was getting quite bald on his head, went to the vet and after a skin sample was taken, today confirmed he has a parasite under his skin which is quite dangerous for a puppy :(

Anyway, it's treatable, he needs to be washed for a few weeks with a special "shampoo" to make sure it goes away.

Bless him!

Awesome choccy lab ^.

Will get pics of my black lab "Pickle" up, tis difficult because he's a complete fidget and the window of opportunity for a pic is 0.00002 of a second.

Had to take Molly our elderly yorkie to the Vets to be put to sleep this morning. Hmm :(
