So I've just moved from a little flat into a proper grown up house, which means instead of a lock-up round the corner with no power, I've got an honest-to-goodness garage with actual lights and everything! Sadly my car's still up at Snetterton having, if I'm honest, a shocking amount of work done (pretty much everything between the wheels replaced), at least she'll have somewhere nice to come home to.

So here's my little garage. What are you guys working out of?

While I'm inordinately proud of the fact that I have a thing made out of concrete with a roof on to put my car in, what I'm really hoping for here is a nice thread of lovely garages to be envious of and to steal ideas from for the future. So hit me up, where does your beloved live?

I am Wanting a garage. Your looks nice so I am jelly. Went to see a few locally and they were tiny. Couldn't even open the door of my car enough to get out and some of them just had bin bags full of random rubbish in them.

Clearly owned by a bunch of cowboys

I've just re-mortgaged my house to release some money to build a garage so will watch this thread with interest.

Built our own house and finished it 2 years ago but as is always the case with self builds ran out of money at the end so didn't get to build a garage at the time then was stuck in a rubbish self build mortgage for 2 years. Fingers crossed i can get it sorted in the next 6 months.

Oh how I would love to knock it down and build a double brick garage.
Pics are a few months old now and I have since started to clear out a load of old car and bike bits I no longer have, and started to declutter it...a bit....also installed another LED strip batton closer to the front so it has decent lighting in there now.

You've 2 SV's :D

Is there any reason, why the garages in the UK are so small? Were they originally designed for the minis? :p

My parents house was built with a proper double garage. So masses of room.

I suppose the issue is the cost.availability of land so everything was built as small as possible. If you could fit an old car in there then thats all that was needed. Then nowadays garages are used for storage 99% of the time so no need to fit a car in!

I'd guess that the cars have got bigger due to safety requirements and the garages haven't. Compare a MK1 Golf or Fiesta with today's equivalent.

New houses aren't much better, it's one of the cons. They are allowed sell them as having a "garage" even though they are actually too small to be one. But ofc you can't advertise the house as having a garage when you re-sell it yourself...

Good garage plan

This is what my architect did design with me before we ran out of money, one side is tall enough for a 2 post lift and upstairs storage on the other side. On talking to my builder he reckoned it'd be about 60k worth of garage so it got quickly shelved :( I'm going to have to settle for something a bit less grand i think!

I forgot to add that, there were 2 houses with loads of land which were sold not long ago. They built new housing and not only do the houses look like the older ones, the garages are tiny...

I've just got a typical single garage at the house, used as a workshop and full of parts/tools with no chance of getting a car in there

Workbench that I made myself (10mm steel plate for the worktop, pretty sure that bench would make a decent bomb shelter!)

Portable toolbox that usually goes with me to track events and contains all my day-to-day tools

Pillar drill, press and 'metal store'

The big toolbox (plus a spare engine) and racking full of parts etc.

Where I actually work on the car...

I also rent a lockup a few minutes down the road but it has no power and is just used for storage (the race car lives in there when I'm not working on it plus my stash of wheels/tyres is down there)

Had a move about of some stuff because once I got the car in it felt too cramped. I've just gone and done £100 on stuff at IKEA because strangely enough their rack-mounted wall shelves are the best ones I could find for the money. Going to put that up tomorrow to the right of the tool board Hopefully won't encroach too much on the car's space and free up a fair bit of space. I want to ditch the filing cabinet too so I can stick the bin under there.

Really want to see some pictures of some flash garages, just normal people garages so far :( Post 'em up!

My bungalow has a garage and I am forever grateful to previous owner who had garage built - I have shelving and racking down each side and can still get my Mk2 Focus in and open door half way to get out - I put a door opener on and since then had a new door - First real garage unlike the renter we had before finding this place - Built in 1982 and detached with side garage - I am sure the builders thought everyone was still driving Austin 7's or Standard 8's - I did manage to rebuild the ride on mower in there.

No pictures I am afraid - By way - also got an inspection pit - very handy for getting engine cover off underneath
