Show us your kitty cats

the thought of driving long distance with the cats makes me cringe.

from the day we picked him up to take him home as a kitten to this day, a journey of more than 5 mins and he WAILS all the way.

He's only asking "are we there yet!?!"

Floyd is a very anxious cat generally, its a stress for him that I'd not feel comfortable with.

Heh, Bella is the same. Today I've been sneezing all day (lost my blumin' voice with it all, probably an oncoming cold, hurrah).

Every single time I sneezed, no matter how far away from her I was, she jumped down out of her pouch and hid behind the sofa.

And every time I take her in the car she yowls. So it will be fun :p At least dad only lives 20 miles away. Will be over before she knows it. Hopefully she'll actually enjoy exploring another house, instead of being petrified by two new faces :p

But I imagine she'll mostly be petrified. /Especially/ if any of us sneeze :p

im considering my options on getting cats atm,
looking at it long term i know i want 2 but dont want to get them at the same time,
im thinking of either getting a female kitten now, and then getting a male kitten in about 18 months,
or, get a female from the cats protection of around 2 years old now and get a male kitten in around 8 months
whatever happens though i am hoping to get the first one in the new year

The number of kittens needing homes will be greatly reduced now it's winter.

You might be able to find a parent/child pair in the rescue that will be what you are wanting to do. It's always slightly risky hoping that cats you get at different times will get on. They won't always be friends, but a bonded pair already will.

Get the male kitten first, otherwise it will all end in tears (seriously, male's are more likely up for petting and cuddles). Advantage there is that you'll have a more forgiving kitten that you can teach how to live with you, who can then teach the new arrival should you decide to get a 2nd cat/kitten.

I'm finding out the hard way how to not make one kitten jealous of the other, oh and the power battles never end.

And since they won't be from the same litter, you'll will need to read up on how to do the proper introductions. I hope you have a lot of free time on your hands / holidays / work from home days. :D

That's very weird... why do you have the compulsion to separate siblings?

The cats will have better lives if you get them at the same time, ideally from the same mother.

They will grow up together and have a better time with each other.

Cats are quite solitary creatures and two different cats and two different ages from two different families is MUCH harder to make a happy family than brother and sister.

One or Two... get him/her/them at the same time.

Get both at the same time.

Not sure if it's a standard thing but I got mine separately and the initial one seems to still be under the impression her territory is being invaded 3 years later.

Get both cats at the same time so they can grow up together and get used to the house together removing the factor of ownership[ by the longer serving cat. What I am about to explain is my experience, which ended up being very good but doesn't always turn out this way.

I got my male cat Sushi in August 2014, and he had the house, and me to himself for almost 7 months.

When I got my female, Peanut, they were only 2 month apart age wise, but she was very playful and wanted to be around everything, which he classified as his. It was roughly a month of nightmares...they would fight, hiss, spit, wouldn't eat together, wouldn't use the same litter tray and so on...and this was after they were introduced slowly.

Then all of a sudden, found them both cuddling together, they would rub heads together and would follow each other around and if one wasn't in the same room as the other, the other would go find them and make sure they were ok.

I was lucky with mine, but I wouldn't assume that any other cat will be OK.

Reiteration, buy both at the same time, let them have their differences but also accept the fact the home is both of theirs from the start as it MAY cause more issues moving forward if the first cat you buy, takes ownership and doesn't alleviate that as easily as my boy did.

I'd agree with those saying get them at the same time

We got our boys from different litters but bought them home together. This worked out in the end but almost did not..

As i mentioned earlier Floyd has always been an anxious cat, even as a kitten. When we bought him home with Hugo he was hissing at everyone and just wanted to hide on his own. It was actually pretty concerning.

Fortunately Hugo has always been pretty outgoing and was a very friendly kitten and I think that helped Floyd. Long story short after a fairly tense couple of days one lunch the other half came home to find them asleep next to each other on the sofa. It was still a week or two before he really cuddled up to anyone.

2 years on and he's the on demanding cuddles. For the most part they still get on, they sleep together, wash each other etc. Play fights occasionally get a bit rough, or Floyd winds Hugo up until Hugo whacks him. But he does get away with a lot, I think Hugo treats him like a dumb brother.

Anyway perhaps an extreme example but cats personalities vary hugely, I don't know what would have happened if we'd got them with a gap.

Whiskey has gone off of his Sheba pouches all of a sudden. Just won't touch them now.
I know cats can be very fussy but he loves these.
Anything I can try to get him back on them? We just bought 48 of them!!! Lol!

So today welcomes my first kitten, meet Gus!
