Some of Beryl, no doubt I'll post more in a few pages!!! :D

Are all the pics of the same cat?
Is it a moggie or a pedigree?
Some of the pics make your cat's colour out be "smoke".

Yeah, all of the same cat :)

The picture you quoted was an older picture to the others. Her colour has definitely changed over the last few months.

A few people have asked if she's pedigree, bought her from a local family and nothing was mentioned so guessing not!

Having the dilema at the moment, as we're on a 1st floor apartment but really want to let her out. Trying to think of ways to make it possible (ie just on the weekend whilst we're in to let her back in etc..). Not ideal, but I think she'd really enjoy it outside!!

Yeh, Paddingon, our moggy (**** wannabe) had a beautiful nature. His fetching was epic when he was younger. Just chucking a ball of paper down the stairs from our bedroom and he'd bolt off after hit and fetch it back onto the bed for us...

But, yes, his malting was pretty bad :(

QUESTION: How well does your chap fit through a regular cat flap?

A question for fellow cat owners (particularly ones with long haired cats): Do you ever see your cat coughing?

I don't mean coughing up a hairball (which is a very distinctive sound and ends with a slimy pile of matted fur on the carpet), I mean a regular 'normal' cough... One of my cats has a bit of a coughing session every so often, and it always worries me slightly. She coughs and splutters for a couple of minutes, but doesn't expel anything, and then seems fine afterwards. She's been doing it since I got her, so I doubt it's an immediate serious problem, but I just wondered if other cats do the same? I imagine that it's easy to get long hairs going down the wrong hole every once in a while?

I had a similar worry few months ago.. Kitty was coughing choking quite badly on a couple of occasions, on the 2nd night while i was in the kitchen she was hanging around my feet and started coughing, as we have white tile floor in there i could easily see there was some blood splatter. This got me really worried as i was thinking the same thing as you, this isn't regular fur ball type cough. I decided that if it continued the next day i'll take her to the vet, luckily the next day it seemed to have cleared up and within a couple of days she was back to her happy self. What i put it down to was maybe it was a mouse or animal she ate and a bone or foreign object caught inside her and took a while to dislodge, doing some research i found out this is quite common with outdoor cats. Just take her to the vet if it persists or deteriorates.

Just a heads up. I posted in this thread about a year or so ago about some epic toy mice that you can buy on eBay which support a cat charity.

Here's the link that I've recently bought some from:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400177400053&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

The seller is sarah0018, and knits all these mice herself. They really are the best toys my cats have had, and they've had a quite a few. The price is ridiculously low as well, and they come stinking of catnip which will send your cat mad (unless it has anosmia!). Loads of different colours, shapes and sizes. The big mice are laughably huge, and cats love them.

She does all this for a good cause, and the amount of cat toys you get for your money is frankly ridiculous (I received two lots today, and my wife & I were LOLing at the number of them that I was pulling from the package) especially when you consider they're hand made.

Buy some and help some homeless cats!

Note that I'm in no way affiliated with this charity, just think that it does a good job and is a good thing to support (plus your cats will thank you for it).

We're looking at buying a pair of kittens (possibly today), which are probably about 14 weeks old. But they have not been vet checked or vaccinated! Personally I think this is a bit off?

We'll buy them on the understanding that we'll get them checked but if there's any serious issues we'll return them.

So, can someone tell me how much you'd expect to pay roughly for a vet check/vaccination for a kitten?

(I would phone the vet today but they're closed of course)

Companion Care (normally housed within a Pets at home) charge £44 per kitten for the full vaccination, microchip, healthy check, flea and worm treatment.

Pretty sure this was their standard package. We were very impressed with them.

Why would you buy a cat. Go and get one from the RSPCA!

Are these pedigree kittens? If not, then I have to echo the sentiments that you should check availability with RSPCA (similar organisation) - not only will you pick up a kitten for a £10 donation (per kitten), they will also do the vet check for you, for next to nothing. Personally, I would never pay someone to buy their non-pedigree kittens, given that there are so many unwanted cats/kittens in cat shelters. My sister bought 2 kittens (moggies), from a cat shelter for less than £50 including vet checks.

Of course, if these are pedigree cats, then a breeder is the way to go.

British blue short hair / ragdoll cross! Not pedigree as such, but 'different' :)

ps: We've spoken to local cat rescue places, and they wanted £100 per kitten. But money isn't really the issue.

£100/kitten...dear lord.

Most animal rescue places are putting down dogs and cats by the bucket load. I can't believe that they would rather out-price themselves out of the market and put down the cats, rather than let them go to a home for less.

Just to clarify, these cat shelters who are charging £100/kitten...are these moggies or pedigree kittens?

Yes... Cat shelter moggies...

£100/moggie. WTF!!!

Where is this cat shelter...Monte Carlo?

Whichever cat shelter you went to, I feel they are getting far too greedy. Clearly they value money over the life of the kitten. At this time of year, they will be inundated with requests to take cats into their shelter. Rather than take any money that they can get, they are pricing themselves out of the market, which will inevitably lead to their cats being left on the shelves, which in turn will leave them no other option than to kill them by lethal injection. If I wanted to get rid of my cat, I certainly wouldn't take it there, as it will face almost certain death, due to their greed. I sense that this cat shelter is being run purely as a means to make money, rather than to re-home cats.

What you can do is have a quick search on the internet for any cat rescue shelters in your area.

My sister went to 2 shelters. The first one said that my sister's end of terrace, 3 bed house, with garden...was not good enough. The 2nd rescue shelter gave her the thumbs up. She paid about £30/kitten, including vet check, etc. She lives in London, so the cat shelter would be in this area. She bought 2 cats (2 years ago) and today, they are both alive and healthy.

I haven't seen my cat in 2 weeks, as he's stayed at my mothers whilst I was away for Christmas. Won't get him back for at least 10 days. As much as he bloody irritates me, he's the most demanding cat I've ever met, I'm missing him. :(
