cant believe in a Y reg car electric windows are still not standard!

Agreed. I find it kind of shocking just how basic the car is really - despite having air conditioning (!) it doesn't have electric windows, ABS or steering wheel audio controls... which usually you'd expect to have in a car that has something as frivolous as aircon. Weird.

...yet you still bought it :p

newbie here, but this is my baby - a 1999 MX5 1.8.
A year ago i fitted an MP62 Supercharger, which means i have a dyno-proven 182bhp (up 50bhp on stock) which in a 1-tonne car makes for lots of fun.
Does a quarter-mile in 15 secs at Santa Pod, and its bags of fun on a trackday.
Other mods are:
Greddy Emanage Blue piggyback ECU
OZ Superleggera Alloys
KYB AGZ Adjustable shock with Flyin' Miata springs
Lotus Elise seats (uber light) with a custom leather/alcantara retrim
Custom dual exhaust
Honda s2000 start button
Hard Dog safety roll-over bars

Had her over 6 years now, and no intention to ever sell. Shes having some bits done soon (WB02 controller & boost gauge) which means i'll be able to tune the piggyback ecu via my laptop.

Nice car :) How difficult was the SC mod?
Surprised you're not getting into the 14's on the 1/4.

Actually, the s/c was very easy for me - i just paid my mechanic to do it! It was fitted by www.performance5.com - the only good mx5 tuner in the south.
I probably could have fitted the hardware myself (you can do it in a day) but the wiring and tuning of the aftermarket ECU is hardcore stuff, and i wouldnt have felt confident doing it.

yeah, it should be capable of just under 15 secs, but i just cant get the traction off the line. Before the supercharger (with 132bhp) i just dropped the clutch at 3500rpm and zipped off to a 16.2 1/4 mile. The extra power means that when i do that now i sit on the start line spinning my wheels! Had to do a granny start and only floor it when i was rolling.

MX5's arent suited to drag racing due to the gearing we have - although some of the big power (250bhp) guys on our forum are in the 13's... oof!

It has wheels, an engine, and moves (albeit lethargicly), so it's better than nothing...mind you a pushbike is better than that. :p

lol it's not quite so bad. it's a first car, it moves and can be a bit nippy when it wants to be, it's actually got more guts than a ford fiesta 1.4, which is good. i will eventually own an Audi A3... up until then I guess it's my little corsa. lol
