Is there any truth behind the rumour that the Z5 and (new) Supra will share the same platform do you think..?

I think this is the case, whether its a supra or another car I don't think anyone knows. Isn't there a test car around with both bmw/Toyota parts in it?

Both BMW and Toyota have confirmed they've both got new cars coming that share a jointly developed platform and they both have test cars making their way around the world at the moment.

The Z4 is due a replacement so it's assumed that will be the BMW car. I don't think Toyota have said anything about the model, but the internet assumes it'll be a Supra.

The Z4 will be my next car...hopefully.

Do it. Do it now.

I don't see why the new car won't be called a Z4 though? All the convertible/coupe cars in BMW's range are evenly numbered, so Z5 seems a weird thing to go with. As far as I'm aware it's not confirmed, yet all the news sites are referring to it as a Z5 as if that's confirmed to be its name.

You could always have waited a bit longer, like I'm forcing myself to so I don't buy another under-priced lemon which does what I want on paper. :p

A terrible photo from my trip to the peak district yesterday. (I also have electric folding mirrors :p )

Nice 10 mile walk followed by a 25 mile hoon. Weather could have been better - heated seats for the win.

Such a great looking car! White looks nice there but I don't think I could pull it off.

Has me thinking! I've driven a NA 3.0 but I feel it lacked ultimate shove. Need to try a 35i.

This or a 3.6/3.8 996. Hmm.

We went through this and found that you could have had a similarly performing 23i with 200bhp for not much more :p

I know this but if you know me...I don't like to get the lower model when I could eventually get the higher end model.

If you're underwhelmed by the power of the 3.0i Z4... then I think the 3.6/3.8 996 will also dissappoint... still fun to drive, but it really feels underpowered.

The Z4 35i though has a nice amount of torque... the IS (i think that's the model designation) is even better with 340bhp.

True about the power. But I think the character of the 996 engine and whole driver focused Nature of the Porsche will win me over when I eventually drive one. 0-60 in around 5 secs too which I'm happy enough with. Vs just under 6 secs for the 3.0NA Z4.

Some of the characteristics of a 996 are still fun... the way it likes to slide with an LSD is rather enjoyable - you can carry some impressive drifts with ease if you want to.

Otherwise I'm not a bit fan of the 996... it just doesn't excite me much.

The 997 is a MUCH better car in many ways... I'd go:

996 < E92 M3 < 997

That looks decent price/condition/mileage.

Not really bottomed out but their depreciation is much slower than normal cars.

Perhaps partially because of the release of the turboed cars pushing NA prices up a little bit.

But I bought my 2009 987.2 Boxster S in the middle of last year for £23k and autotrader is showing me that from a dealership like I bought it from... it would now be worth £22.5-25k :)

I think its just because it went from a Z3 - Z4 so they are guessing it will go to Z5 next. Of course that falls apart as there have been two models of Z4. I'm sure I read somewhere that BMW are/thinking about making multiple versions in different price brackets. So maybe a Z3,Z5 and Z6/7 with better engines/trims to complete with some of the other brands. But I may of just made that up in my head :o

Changed my previous Elite Nav auto for this. This one is Elite Nav again, but with the 1.6cdti 160 BiTurbo engine. The second turbo widens the powerband nicely, and drops the 0-60 by 1 second. With this engine you also get a Watt's Link rear axle.

The one also has the fantastic LED Matrix headlights and the Driving Assistance Pack (emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, stuff like that).

Weird to be driving a manual again, but it's fun. :)

I also love the Deep Sky Blue paint; it suits the car well I think.

If I were to buy one for the long term I would probably skip the 18" wheels and stick with the 17s. They compromise the ride a bit, and add more road noise.

Casually ending up at Oulton Park and contemplating all sneaking on to the track :D We behaved though, but good run out on Sunday with some friends and their kit cars.
