The reason the F10 wasn't being used though is because you'd hit the millage limit and you were waiting to VT it - completely financial reasons.

This then lead to it not being used and the requirement for another car, which was used more (the Seat thing with Audi alloys).

No. The reason the F11 wasn't getting used is because it wasn't fulfilling my needs.

Yes, it had gone over it's mileage limits. Yes I did VT it. But it's simply not the case that I couldn't afford it. It was only 12p per mile. Hardly breaking the bank.

This is nothing I haven't said before. But it's funny how this forum just assumes it's purely financial choices at every turn.

The reality is that nobody would really have cared were it not for the paragraphs of mental gymnastics in every post about the Seat. Frankly what car you drive is your business but peoples interest gets piqued when you go out of your way to explain things in a convoluted fashion. Or when you big up your expectations by explaining the wonderful cars you are considering and then buy something... well less like that :p

The Audi thread these days seems to be full only of people factory ordering brand new ones and there is almost no questioning of peoples finances in there, for example.

People only seem to get into discussions like this when they do that, most of the time somebody posts a car, people say nice car, or i hate the colour, or those wheels suck, or why didn't you get a petrol one and thats that :p

Also your figures on the depreciation are probably out, whilst that 530d will have lost £500 a month when it was new it is of course not new now and a 3 year old 530d is not depreciating at £500 a month, depreciation is a ski-slope curve that slows as the car ages. Though of course some of that reduction in depreciation will have been cancelled out by the introduction of warranty costs.

For the past 18 months or so, the final settlement figure has been reducing slower than part-ex value. For example, 18 moths ago, when I was first looking to change, there was only a £1500 difference between px value and settlement value. Just before VT-ing the car, this was over £3500. All the while, paying well over £500 per month. So it has been depreciating at that rate. Perhaps it would have fared better over the next few years, I don't doubt that. And as you say, warranty costs going forward wont have helped here. But there was such a large difference between what I'd get in PX value, and settling the account, that it made sense to VT when I did. I may have gotten back on track by the agreement end, but it might not have, so there was no real loss in VT-ing now. And what I saved in payments on the BMW that was barely getting used, and would just be handed back, would pay for the Edition 30.

Yeah, sure, I didn't need to mention the DB9. But I did look at a few, it was a serious consideration, then that happened at my work, so thought better of it, and went a different way for the next couple years. At the end of the day, a circa 2007 DB9 wouldn't have depreciated any more than the 5 series depreciated over its first 3 years (In fact, I would say more likely significantly less). So it would have cost roughly the same to run (taking into account warranty costs and increased servicing and fuel costs).

As for the explaining things in convoluted fashions, I merely said here that the Alhambra fit my needs to the extent that the 5 series went. It was then brought up about financing arrangement and such by other members, referring to posts from months ago.

Anyway, I'm done with the conversation. Everybody has different needs and uses for vehicles. I have explained my reasons for making the changes I have, not that it's anybodys business. But I do take some degree of offense to the accusation that I'm sort of of pauper, who despite paying the depreciation on a decent car, somehow can't afford the excess mileage, when the true reason is it simply made more financial sense to exit the vehicle in the way I did. Not that I NEEDED to, or WANTED to stay with the 5 series.

You continue to say that's it none of our business, a sentiment I completely agree with, only to go deep into detail about the situation.

Should've bought a DB9 and simply not commuted in it. Could've bought a shed for a £1k and used that as a work tool, fit in with the "at risk of being made redundant" folk at work.

Edit; that was written completely as a joke but now I've read it back, it could actually work.

Yes, it was considered, lol.

Posts thread about how important 300bhp is.

Buys Seat Leon diesel

Actually after posting the thread and reading the replies. I realised what an stupid idea it was. Also that I was daydreaming and not realising the repercussions of buying such a car on a £4k budget. While working out the mileage I am going to be doing in the next year I realised that it's best for me to buy a diesel and just wait when the moment is right to buy a car which isn't a cheapo £4k 300bhp monster. This came up with a decent spec, although high mileage but has had most things replaced within the last 6 months with receipts. It drives well and the condition is decent for the age and given mileage. So i decided to purchase it. Most of my friends own these so I had people with me who know the cars and what to look out for.

Wasn't it just a month ago you were totally besotted with the 330i and just put a new set of wheels on it?

Yes it actually was but my circumstances changed. I still have the 330i, though it will be up for sale soon.

That's some very in your face bodykit and rimz for 170bhp :p didn't realise they made an FR dagdag. Given the silly prices of them on the used car market I suspect you could have got a 1 year older 240bhp Cupra for the same price. At least then you could have had the power to burn the Corsa chavs off your going to attract like a red rag to a bull :D
