Show Us Your Motors!

Yeah, I found out what happened with that.

The car companies were annoyed at the limit as it meant lower orders for their more expensive models, so they threatened to cut the heavy discounts they give on motability cars. That would have made even lower models very expensive deposit wise, so motability relented and lifted the limit.

There should be a price cap on motability cars the whole system is probably more abused than any other benefit. Why does someone who is too disabled or sick to work need a 30k BMW or Audi or a sporty 25k low down hot hatch with rock hard suspension . My local BMW dealer have a massive banner strapped to the front of the dealership with "Motability" on which basically just cheapens the whole brand.
I know so many people who claim a car and treat it like crap because everything is paid for and younger people can get them to save paying massive insurance prices. I worked with a girl who quit her job to become a paid carer for her mum and Dad who both claimed disability despite being fine and they were driving a brand new Audi  how can anyone afford to spend there benifits on them I don't get it.
The whole system is a joke

Which part of 'the cost to the taxpayer is the same whether they take no car or a Corsa or a Mercedes' is it that you don't quite get?

It doesn't matter what they drive - it doesn't cost you or I any more than it would if they took the bus.

Can we just leave it now. This is a show us your motors thread, which I did. It's not the thread to be discussing the fairness of the welfare system. If you want to do that, make a post in GD or SC.

I know it doesn't make any difference to the taxpayer if they get a car or not as it's the same amount but i don't get how someone on benifits can afford to just give up say £200 per month to have a brand new car how do they afford to live . The system was designed for the genuine people who have real disabilities and need certain forms of transport but the cars available on it are laughable and unsuitable for most genuine recipients.
People even claim them now for there naughty kids getting diagnosed with ADHD and for looking after there nan etc. It's abused beyond belief and I don't see why a chav on a council estate should be able to play the system claiming a bad back and get to drive a 30k car when most people pulling in 30k+ a year would struggle to afford one.

Sorry my rant wasnt aimed at you I just quoted your post to say in general about the motability scheme being badly abused by fake claiments. ;)

That £200 is to help the disabled person get around. This can include things like taxi journeys. You do 10-15 of them a month, you are probably hitting your £200. This is a way of them not having to rely on taxis. It gives them more independence, and can put less strain on other publicly funded transport services like dial a ride. They are simply swapping one method of transport for another.

Got a real soft spot for the Pulsar. The first turbocharged car I went in was a ~300bhp Pulsar. They're pretty light too aren't they? 1300kg?

Had a T28 from a Pulsar on both of my old Rover Turbos. Transformed the car over the stock T25 and felt pretty rapid.

Doobedoo - Does yours still have the umbrella in the drivers B Pillar/Door area? My friends have had a few (stock, 330hp and 450hp) and they are without doubt my favourite "hot hatch" with an unbelievable amount of grip, love 'em!

Always wanted a Turbocharged car was looking at scoobies but they are a bit too common plus I prefer Hot Hatches so went for that instead.

Not too bad somewhere near 300bhp and yes the car weighs 1350kig with 4 wheel drive, so it moves.

No I didn't get the Umbrella with mine :( they did a series 1 and 2 can't remember which ones had the umbrella but mine didn't.

This is so awesome. May I ask how much it set you back?

Not much mate I paid £2300 for it but It was a gamble as it was an Ebay job. Had to drive about 300 miles to get it and the whole way home I just hoping it didn't break down.

Got it home and it was alright been messed about with a bit and it needed a proper machine polish. With in a week or two of having it on the road the clutch decided to chew itself up, not good. Read a lot of info and fitted a new, proper Exedy clutch rather than a mickey mouse chinese rip-off :).

Done a few bits to it but nothing major not driven it as much as I would like and not at all during Winter. Next year though lol :)

Indeed, but I'd also expect a superior level of basic kit from a Merc entry-level hatch that's a good bit more expensive than a Focus or Astra.

But then they wouldn't be able to sell you a Lighting Pack for an extra grand or something.
