@MusicalChris Do prefer the pre-facelift Fiesta, before they went all "Aston grille" at the front end.

Was one picture a "before" and one an "after"? Paint looks really flat in the first and really well polished in the second!

So was actually both after the clean and polish, just the way in first one the sun was shining off the paint work.

Yeah i prefer the pre-facelift MK7 also

I've done more miles than I would have liked in my Impreza over the past year, and since my annual mileage is about to go up rather than down, I had to do something about it.

A good friend asked me if I knew anyone who was in the market for his car, as he'd changed jobs and massively cut his mileage... why as a matter of fact I did.

Picked it up tonight;

2003 ZT diesel auto. Sunroof, cruise, fully electric alcantara seats, auto wipers, anti-hijack, electric folding mirrors, air-con, parking sensors... I'm sure there are a few more bits. An impressive amount of car for the money.

Spent the evening wafting around and I love it. Of course, being an old MG-R means that it does have its niggles... kinda glad really... the Subaru was too reliable and I was getting bored not being able to tinker, haha.

It's the 2 litre diesel, I think it's the BMW M47 but without the variable vane turbo and swirl flaps (happy to be corrected). The engines and gearboxes are very very reliable.

It's in great condition for such a cheap car. The odd ding and mark here but no rust or scrapes/parking damage etc. It's done 118k miles.

And to think... I've always been massively anti-diesel, haha.

I agree! I've replaced most of the bulbs on my Impreza with LED. The entire rear clusters are fitted with LED bulbs, including the indicators which look cool.

This already has LED interior bulbs and number plate bulbs. This isn't a car I really want to spend any money on, I have a 300bhp Impreza for that :) It'll get whatever servicing and maintenance it needs, but I'm even trying to hold off getting it remapped. It's slow as **** :D

Do you have a ZT?

No, I just also have an ageing car :D some years ago I test drove a couple of these though, if I remember rightly a 1.8t, a v6 and a v8. Surprisingly the 1.8t was the sweet spot because the others were a bit underwhelming given the cost to run them! I didn't get one in the end though.

Cheers guys, I've always liked the Mk1 but never envisaged actually owning one. My friend has owned some pretty interesting cars in which I usually ended up swiping the keys for a cheeky test drive (550bhp GT4, 3000GT, 350bhp Impreza WRX, supercharged Lexus IS200 to name a few) but I never gave the ZT much attention. Turns out they're a pretty nice place to sit, and a well specced model makes for quite a nice motorway cruiser.

So far, I've done 300 miles in it since Friday and have used 1/2 a tank of fuel. If I get 450-500 miles to a tank I'll be really happy. Bearing in mind I used to struggle to get 300 miles out of the Impreza and only used V-Power, if this car proves to be reliable it will drastically reduce my overall motoring bill with all savings going towards a house deposit, not to mention keeping the miles off and value in my STi. The STi is just wasted sitting on the motorway at 65mph.

I paid just under a grand for this and I can't think of a better car for the money.

The engines and gearboxes in these tend to be very reliable. It's not uncommon to see ZT diesels well in excess of 200k miles. The only things that scare me are the turbocharger/fuel pump/injector issues that seem to plague most modern diesels. At least with the autobox there's no DMF to worry about. Don't even think these have a DPF either.

I'm lucky in that I do all of my own work which will keep costs down, but if the money I save starts to go on repairs I'll have to let it go. However to be fair to the car, my friend had it for a few years and it was reliable during this time.

Went out for a razz in the sun yesterday, ended up at a nice pub and had a meal outside... :)

Apologies for the potato pic... The camera on my HTC One M8 seems to be absolute garbage... :(
