Show Us Your Motors!

So with lockdown halting my plans to travel back home I decided to spend the flight money on a car. The idea being that we could go on a few road trips to explore the country and hit up some beaches too.

So with a modest budget and the depressing amount of ex taxi saloons I started the hunt for a family car and ended up with this!

Behold my (new to me) land boat / yank tank / gas guzzler!

Its a 2007 GMC Yukon XL - the XL meaning that it's bloody huge. It's over 5.6m long!

Body condition ain't great and it needed a proper clean inside but the engine and transmission were in good nick and for a big brute it does get a move on.

Got an inspection sorted and it needed some serviceable items (mileage is 144kms) so managed to get the seller to knock it down to just under £2700 with a years insurance and the equivalent of an mot. Bargain!

Picked it up from the seller and it's great! Got a 5.3 litre V8 (supposedly ~300hp), remote start (desperately needed in this weather), cruise, sofas for seats (of which there are 9!), isofix for the kids, huge boot, tints and a 100ish litre fuel tank (that cost me about £25 to fill up :D)

Anyway plans are to service it, sort the interior, get a decent head unit and enjoy wafting about over the summer!

Just for the lolz, what’s the MPGs like? :p

£25 to fill up a 100litre tank. Maaaaan, I would love that. Looks ace though that, they do love American cars in the Arabian peninsula. Enjoy it
Haha tell me about it, I was speaking to my dad and we did the conversion to £ at the current prices of fuel and it was £LOL :p

Yeah they do love their American cars, my dad refers to this as the Honda Civic of the American suv. Which is nice :o

It would be funny to buy some 24 inch chrome spinners for it :p
:D:Dit's pretty drug dealer spec at the moment, don't want to give the game away... Shhh!

Not sure to be honest! From my first full tank I've done 375km and the range is telling me I can get another 275km so 650km to a tank.

I've been driving pretty sedately with the occasional hoon through a tunnel or when straightening up from one of the many u turns needed to be done here.

The trip tells me I'm averaging 17.8L/100km so sounds about right.

I'm terms of UK mpg that works out to be (according to Google) 15.87mpg

I want to see @Regy53 new car now. Can't imagine how excited one would be waiting on something like that being delivered! Just awesome looking.
Cheers :)

Being delivered to my house next Wednesday , I did take a bit of buyers remorse for a few days but only because the news is so grim . I can’t wait it’s next level stuff for me tbh.

I do have a feeling of feeling a bit stupid though . I wonder if anybody else can relate. So we live in a nice area etc but to plonk a red Ferrari on the drive..... do they think your a poser? I’m not and usually quite like understated cars with little personal touches . For example my r8s blended in they were after all a Audi . This is very shouty

I also had exactly same worries being a bright yellow Ferrari I was expecting jealousy or people just thinking I was a prat and maybe abusive comments as had a little if that with the yellow 911.

But I’ve never had a bad comment and a lot of people want to ask about as what it is as some don’t know and others petrol heads particular just love it’s presence noise and fact it’s a more hardcore choice in a way. It’s a little like Mustang ownership but back when they were rare lots of positive comments from general public and petrol heads alike.

Also get a lot of thumbs up from bikers too surprisingly so guess it’s a car people have a lot of respect and admiration for and mine when parked on drive would get kids coming near to take photos they never came onto the property just took photos and neighbours really loved the car even though it was loud the general word from them all that wow that is a beautiful car and many think it’s an older classic ferrari some are very surprised when I say it’s a 2014 as some expect an older classic or some expect a brand new car.

I’m over moon with mine driving it never gets boring if your not on mood or on motorway then wet mode and auto mode and use cruise control and when you in mood race or traction off and manual gears and it honestly feels like driving a race car on the road and I’ve driven race cars that would be terrible on road but this car pulls it off so well.

Not sure if someone mentioned MPG but yes it’s terrible but I don’t care. :)

For some reason I've been tempted a few times to get a Nissan Pathfinder - a bit smaller than that beast. Not quite sure what my motivation is. But as it "only" has a 2.5L diesel V6 that half puts me off as I enjoy my 3L V6s too much.

The Pathfinder was actually second on the list! It comes with a V8 here and had planned to view it this weekend, but ended up getting the Yukon.

The Pathfinders a great car and the resale value here is very good. Only problem with the one I was viewing was it was slightly out of my price range and a high miler.

Have to say I'm not a big V8 fan personally dunno why really - I'm not someone who yearns for endless power, etc. heh but I do like the refinement and feel of there being more in the tank you get with ~3L V6s some of the new 4 pot turbo 2-2.3L like in the newer Ford Rangers have some nice poke and responsiveness but personally I still feel somehow like they are being wrung out to get there.

Having seen the new (2020) RS7 Sportback, etc. I'd be going with Audi if I had that kind of money to throw around hah.
