Show Us Your Motors!

Always loved the proportions of them. Sounds as good as it looks

Corvette sounds like it should

Thanks, looking forward to getting it later and driving home, apart from the fact its now snowing.
Yep I find it very easy to drive, Mrs was following me in the Yaris and even she said the Corvette looks so small on the road compared to modern cars as even the Yaris is wider lol. Going to a Corvette meet tomorrow, first of the year but as its in Nottingham and weather is looking shocking think I will chicken out and take the Yaris.

It's filthy at the minute. I plan to hose it down tomorrow.

Might not be too everyone taste but I love it, as its got that very typical cammy sound old V8's have and I can cruise with a rumble and its not obnoxious at all or I can floor it and wake the dead. :D

Of course the finished product will be every so marginally quieter with a little more tone, but the mufflers going on are essentially straight pipes, keep the tail pipes the same as factory, just a tad longer.

Sounds awesome.

Ooh I can see a potential sound off competition, once you’ve got your exhaust finished of course :D

We’d have to ring fence it to V8s and below, otherwise those pesky Ferraris and Lambos will win. Oh and dispensation needs to be taken into account for us poor sods with modern (strangled) engines.

Drove home in it just whilst snowing lol, I don't think it will win a sound off volume wise, being an old American V8 they are not high revving unless fiddled with, but the rumble it has sounds wonderful.

awesome motor sounds beastly.
the paintwork looks fantastic too is it all original ?

That is an unknown, I'd suggest its not as it looks too nice, but if it has had a repaint it was done US side and was an extremely good job, or it has been well cared for, the car only had 3 owners US side, then first owner in UK was Gavin Roe who specialises in C3 Corvette sales, then the chap I purchased it from and now me. The paint does have some swirling and the odd one or two stone chips. The underside is extremely clean and there is no rot on the car, so you never know, just gone past 48,500 miles, still on original motor, no rebuilds will just drive it and enjoy it as engine is fine, bit loud on a cold start but quietens down after a few minutes and it pulls to 100mph quite easily so I feel its a good one, am slowly restoring all the suspension bushings etc on it and making sure it stays oil leaks free, which is a bit hard as one specialist told me if a C3 Corvette has no oil leaks then something is empty lol. :D

looks great still, if you are really picky and go over and over it you will find imperfections in almost any paintworks.
what's the mpg ?

Not to sure, not as bad as expected, better than M5 and Ferrari I think, but its also got a huge fuel tank, like 90l in my short trips (no motorways) I think I am seeing 12-15mpg.

Well a few companies want to do some work with it, Tegiwa want to dyno it for free so be good to see what power it is making, just gotta figure out how to stop it kicking down on dyno or maybe just lock it in 2nd and Autobrite are happy to give it a machine polish for me.

The rest is mechanical most of which I am doing myself. :)

As someone who grew up with turbocharged fours, I'd like to drive the Astra. But the E92, F96 and (again) the 'vette look amazing; I'm gonna have to brush up my camera skills to compete.

sounds like you have all corners worked out.
lovely motor.

Hi there

Got the car back, its definitely louder at idle now and has a nicer note to it, but it won't deafen anyone, its not that kind of loud but there again when I rev it I rev it to around 2500-3000rpm max, old V8.
Driving it the sound is really nice at cruise or very gentle throttle its got a lovely warble to it, a touch more throttle is creating a resonance/rattle in the cabin I need to track down or apply more throttle to get rid of it lol. Opening it up and it properly roars, sounds great, did not mash it too hard on way home as it was snowing/raining so played it safe.

Couple of photos and quick not so great youtube clip, Mrs got a better one with her phone:

Really happy with the look as you'd never really know. They are also much lighter in weight which is always welcome.

Will eventually get some proper driveby and POV, because driving it and giving it some throttle and it sounds amazing.

Very happy, once I solve the resonance at light throttle at low speed I will be even happier, these back boxes to bounce a bit in the hangers due to how much lighter they are so I've padded them with some rubber which might help or make it worse, will find out and is easy to test as does it worse in reverse, in drive its easy to drive around but I enjoy solving the many rattles and quirks. :D

Ferrari in the pit and the legend v8 is making you tinkle more than anything.
love it.

Somewhat the joys of older cars and especially American cars in general, those who have been round here long enough will know I turned a Saleen Mustang into an absolute missile and a very capable handling car though I did go mental on my old E46 M3, now I tend to just try and get cars driving the way they did when they left the factory or I guess you could say OEM+ and a little more vocal. :D

Problem with Ferrari, its so good out the box, you can't do much apart from just enjoy driving it.

problem is after the 458 where do you go ?
Ferrari as a brand and my uncles dealing with his Ferrari dealer has been second to none.

he is still wanting to scratch the lambo itch or McLaren , he came from a R8 v10 and boy what a great supercar yes supercar for little money considering.

Nowhere for me 458 is the pinnacle, after that super cars got silly fast and totally impossible to enjoy on road at legal speeds to the point they feel boring. If I ever change 458 it will be a side step like a GT3 and a GT3 is all I can really think fits the bill and then I’d miss just how good owning a Ferrari feels, very special car but saying that a decent American car also has amazing feeling good factor, my Saleen and now the Corvette got/get as much attention as Ferrari if not more. The Aston also gets a lot of looks too even though it’s grey but it’s an Aston so it’s got class and the James Bond factor about it and once you drive it and drive it more you forgive the poor gearbox and clutch plus harsh ride and it turns into why feels like a proper sorted drivers car that is great fun at legal speeds and sounds absolutely incredible out the box, with fuse 22 pulled of course. ;)
