Show Us Your Motors!

I didn’t hear them say they’d never make a FWD car in that video? Does that mean they also said they’d never make an AWD car then? Must mean the new M5 is terrible and they should never of made it?

Besides, they’ve been making FWD for years in the form of the majority of Mini’s.

But please do continue to be the coolest person on these forums.

Have you got sand in your pants? It is a Motors sub-forum so 1) expect to be wound up over stuff that is inconsequential, 2) people likely know everything you have said there.

What responses did you want? AMAZING car! Wow! So beautiful! Did you lease that all your self?! Exceptional! My favourite car ever.

Edit: At least post a picture of it infront of your house so we can make fun of that too, like the chap above and the CryptoLambo

Yeah it’s itchy AF to be honest.

Yes, all of these, didn’t sleep last night because I didn’t get everyone’s approval. Especially yours, it was the approval I was looking for more than anyone’s.

At least post a picture of it infront of your house so we can make fun of that too

Does it make you feel special to not get your facts straight and troll constantly?

You'll need to grow a thick skin for the 'did they forget to paint it lol' jokes. Despite flat grey being offered on the Octavia vRS for a good 5 years now, it's apparently still the pinnacle of internet humour to ask "dId tHEy fOrGeT tO PaInT iT?" whenever someone joins an owners group/forum with one.

Triggered much? I own a transverse 4WD car myself but i understand its limitations. Also the M5 is a RWD bias car with AWD.

Forums are places which people have opinions on things and in my opinion BMW has lost its USP by making the new 1 series a FWD biased chassis. It is just a car in a sea of muchness now whereas the previous generation had a) an inline 6 in its line up and b) RWD chassis. I also understand BMW's decision as 99% of the general public couldn't give a hoots about driving dynamics otherwise the Jags would have sold like hot cakes. Audi have been selling dull as ditch water FWD cars for the past 30 years no problem at all. (I also own a dull as ditch water FWD car)

RWD simply isn't important to anyone except us BMW nerds and we make up a tiny proportion of the market (and most of us don't buy brand new cars anyway we buy second hand ones - the most vocal anti FWD people will probably never order a new BMW anyway).

The 1 Series isn't primarily a car aimed at driving enthusiasts - it's a premium compact car and none of its competition offers either RWD or 6 cylinder engines. The new car is actually really nice - it's decent inside, a big improvement over the previous model and the styling isn't THAT bad either. I suspect it's pitched pretty well to sell in large volumes - something which then facilitates the development of the sort of enthusiast bias models that don't make much money but we all like to see.

I think an FWD 4 cylinder 1 Series is absolutely fine - fine enough to be best in class. The bigger you go, the more difficult it becomes to defend FWD and small engines because drivetrain and engine size has a bigger effect on larger cars, but we're not there with the 1 Series.

Sorry, yes, my bad - I'm being a bit of a precious flower for some reason. Lack of sleep over the last few weeks maybe. My bad.

Fundamentally I completely agree that BMW moving to FWD with the 1-series means that the enthusiast is losing something and they're going for mass-appeal. No doubt though that it makes good business sense considering how well the Golf R has sold, so going after that market with the 1-series adds up.

Having owned a 2015 M140i and a 350Z previously, I can completely appreciate where people are coming from, but I will say that for my needs at least the new 1-series is just about the perfect, small daily driver that does everything well. No, I can't go sideways around a roundabout any more, but then I only ever did that a few times and a couple of those unintentionally :p
