to me the push of the GT3 RS something fizzes and keeps fizzing if you know what i mean.

that engine, that complete package so engaging , that styling, yeh they got it all right in the end lol.

They are very special cars, just the 458 is a far better road (fun wise), but I will be in a position to own both if I sell some other cars, so its now an option.
I am also a little temped by an older 997.2 GT3 / GT3 RS as they make better road cars, again more fun at lower speeds, but I think its the 991.1 I want as think the looks are amazing and the internal engine cabin note is better.

Weissach Pack cars still have room to go up I think, but regular GT3RS around the 150k are great value imo.

Something does have to give though, it's a pretty clear hierarchy of GT cars but the recently increased new RRP & lack of supply still is stretching the GT bubble. It's a bit of a self fulfilling bubble, they're not even limited run cars really just have insane demand (because of the residuals, because of the demand and so on....). Fairly confident my GT4 will be far and away the most expensive car I've ever owned regardless but I made £7k profit on the 4C so that's 'in the pot' to be lost on the GT4 in my man maths head.

At that level dealer margin and interest cost you more than depreciation, typically.

EDIT: I'm not sure what the interior road noise is like on the 991, but I saw in Harrys Garage 992 GT3 review they're around 83db. I can tell you from experience this is completely intolerable for more than an hour or so, you 100% need noise cancelling headphones or motorbike ear plugs. Long journeys in the 4C = tinnitus and very tiring subconsciously.

Well before things all went silly a 991.1 GT3 RS was 135k but admittedly for a not great example, the good ones were all 145-155k. 991.2 GT3 manuals got to around 120k, they are now around 135-150k, again OK ones. I am talking retail prices advertised, on such cars one can expect a dealer margin of around 15-20k typically. A 991.1 GT3 RS are now around 155k for OK ones, some slightly cheaper and some slightly more, problem is what is left for sale is slim pickings, so the really nice ones are either not listed or listed at a premium, a really nice purple one is 170k at moment, though Amari just listed what looks a nice one at 152k. The gen2 991 only would interest me if I decided to get a GT3 simply for the manual, but for me it is the looks and the gen1 RS is the best looking GT3 ever made in my personal opinion, love it!

I am going to enjoy the Lotus for the year and see what happens, if prices rocket more its not end of the world as the Lotus will likely only increase in value also, especially as Exiges are now no more and the Emira will no doubt be easy to flip considering the rumour is that anyone who placed their first deposit August or later won't see a car until 2023 onwards.

Back to show us your motor, yep another S2000, but this time a goodbye after just sailing through its MOT and some good photos of memories:

Been a superb car in my near two year ownership, serviced when I purchased it as part of the deal and serviced again by Honda last year for £200. Nothing has gone wrong and its appreciated during my ownership and it shall be missed for sure but what a car. Highly recommend them and the Ohlins suspension is a transformation, the guy who collected the car today was amazed at how well it rode, when I told him they are still on the track settings he was shocked.

Is the engine in the Boxster S not very good then?

I thought Porsche flat sizes were good?

As you can tell I've driven neither.

I agree with you I would have an 987 Boxster S over an S2000 as it is just a better car at current prices but to have an open top sports car that revs to 9k is something special. Most naturally aspirated convertible sports cars that rev to 9K cost in the region of 50k+.

I have never driven an s2000 but have bike engined kit cars and sound I would say is a massive part of enjoying driving. At least for me. Plenty of really good cars are ruined by dull turbo motors.

What does an S2000 do better than a 987 Boxster S for half the price that makes it worth the huge prices they command?

Front engine RWD banshee sports car from Honda. Borderline cult and Fast & Furious Appearance. Bigger budget in that Porsche space just takes you towards 911 land?

to coin a phrase, this isn’t the dishwasher sub forum so logic doesn’t make sense.

It’s not necessarily better but it is quite different. I’ve driven all the Boxsters and own a Spyder, the best Boxster Porsche ever made but an S2000 has some highlights over it-
- 2.0l 9000rpm F20C Vtec engine which has one of the best engine notes ever and is huge fun and addictive to drive.
- Very sharp almost go-kart feel to handling, it drives like a heavy Caterham, Not many road cars do this.
- Six second power roof
- Cheap running cost, good economy, cheap servicing and generally very reliable with plenty of Specialist.
- JDM scene, Fast & Furious, rarity
- Better looking than Boxsters of its time period so 996/997 which look somewhat dated now whereas an S2000 has pretty timeless design.
- Even better gearbox than Porsche !

Are they better nope, but they are rarer and they are different and like many other JDM cars values have increased.

My Spyder is faster, handles better and is an all round superior car but faster or better does not always necessarily mean better, just like plenty of people prefer the older slower BMWs compared to the new ones.

The S2000 is very marmite though to some people it’s aweful to drive, gutless and spikey handling but to others it’s a seriously rewarding car to drive when driven right and pushed hard.

Get an S2000 up on its toes, drive it flat out and survive and you feel amazing, as it’s so rewarding the downside is it’s all or nothing and when your giving it all quite a few people get bitten. However saying that I found it a perfectly easy cat to just bimble around in, I just hated having roof up as cabin is so small. They also have truly epic heaters whereas my Spyder sucks in comparison.

End of the day I’ve kept the Spyder so better won out and it’s newer to me but I’m at the pinnacle of Porsche Boxsters for me, the S2000 crushes it though on engine induction note with air box mod.

The S2000 is a true sports car in every way, at 1200-1250kg they are light, very special engine mounted far back so front mid-engine and they are typically cheap to run and mega reliable and consumables are cheap, plus they are super easy to DIY work on as well.

Maybe that helps, maybe not, I tried and I’ve owned both at same time.
