Show Us Your Motors!

You know that feeling when you break-up with someone and then years later bump back into them and they've gained 20 stone, shaved their head and gotten facial tattoo's and, rather than walking away happy that you've dodged a bullet, you instead walk away feeling sad wondering what had happened to them in your time apart for them to end up like this?

Well that was my weekend folks. I bought a stock Nissan R34 GTT Skyline from Japan way back in 2003 where I arranged everything whilst I was in stationed in Saudi during Gulf War 2 using my 15min a week internet allowance (rather than contacting home, sorry family!). Over the next 4 years I took that stock car and made it something truly unique in the UK, with so much one off and custom parts that it had a few magazine features done about it (both paper and online). The amount of love and care I poured into that car left a deep scar when I eventually sold it in 2007 and I'd always wondered what happened next to the car, something I'd not done with any other I'd owned.

I knew the basic story from seeing a few ebay adverts pop-up and friends on Skyline forums mentioning seeing it about at "cruises" etc and effectively the new owner sold it on within a few months to start his own business and then it had passed on rapidly between a few different owners before being sold to someone in Ireland for drifting and thats where I though the story ended. Until this weekend where a completely random search brought the story a little closer up to date as I found a 2016 advert.

I'd done drifting myself, I knew other drifters and I know it's hard on a car so when I found a For Sale advert I was expecting some battle scars but Oh Boy I wasn't expecting this. You see, this was car as it looked when it was sold -

and years later the advert showed it looks like this -

and all I could think initially was .....................

Then came the denial phase "nope that not my car, the mirrors are wrong, the sub/amp in the boot is missing, the reg is wrong" etc but once I saw the engine bay, again filled with a few unique/custom/prototype only parts that were only made for my car, I knew the truth

Literally everything that made this car different from the "usual" R34 and/or Drift cars had been removed, sold, stripped away. I mean even down to simply refitting the horrible OEM mirrors back on..........who does that!!!! (drifters who need to see behind them for tandem and the modified Ganadors I had were tiny, I know but still :D).

To be fair once I'd sold the car I obviously lose all rights to complain about what the new seller does but that was my weekend, finding out my once amazing ex had become something I couldn't look at with thinking about crying :(

Here's the advert on Japimports with lots more pictures - https://www.japimportsuk.com/inventory/nissan-skyline-r34-gtt-rb26dett/ - and the advert even has the physical copy of the Banzai magazine the car was featured in when I sold the car with.

In a similar manner....

Each to their own I guess, but to my eyes ruined.

The black wheels ruin it really, the same applies to almost every car that has black wheels.
Wow, this is impressive given it only has 340bhp :D

*343. Mine is circa 355/360 however. But with nearly an extra 200KG in weight I guess I was expecting more labouring, but there was none :p

Goodbye MX5 racer. Off to some mates, engine going into another car but will be running at Donington on Wednesday all being well. I now have space for something else more practical.

:p Was wondering if anyone would mention something.

Ha! Just pulling your leg, nice car and good balance between enough performance and space - pretty low mileage at crica 5k a year.

I'm actually going to suggest you get nominated for MoH for not doing the typical thing these days of thinking having a baby means you need an SUV.

Don't go letting me down now and saying your other half has one!

Replaced my Polo GTI with this. Wanted the extra space because of baby :o

Nice motor that. Was on my list, but I went full man maths.

My thinking was:

If I’m spending 22k on a SEAT, I may as well spend 25k on an A4/5

If I’m spending 25k on an A4/5, may as well get an S4/5 for 29k

But 29k is a lot for a second hand car with no warranty, so I should get one approved used for only a few k more.

Suddenly, an extra 10k was spent :D

We had a lease finish on one these just last week in the same colour. Absolutely fantastic car. Funnily enough we also went from Polo GTI to this (because of baby), enjoy!

I helped a guy find his key at 3am whilst locked inside one of those yesterday. The button to unlock from the inside didn't work without the key and I was shining my headtorch inside while he dug around for it. He was getting a little panicked for a moment. Found him in the morning fast asleep in the drivers seat with the window all the way down. It had been raining all night :D
