The sad thing is it probably was perfect when it rolled off the production line. It's what happens to it between then and delivery that causes the issues.

The painting process isn't perfect. Especially with modern paints. You will get lumps and bumps but the worst thing will likely be orange peel.

Tapping the heatshield picture above was rattling, so some massaging and it now gives a solid ding, fingers crossed the resonance is gone.
If I fixed it I may unplug the valves as spotted them next to the exhaust. :D
If it perisst, could maybe a few strips of sound proofing material (eg Dynamat) stuck directly to it be any use? In my experience it's great for getting rid of the tinnies of light metal panels and resonant vibrations. Although it might not be suitable for something so hot.

When I had the stereo system upgrade in my car the installers lined the doors and rear quarters with that stuff, unbelieable just how much of a difference it makes to the panels and road noise.

Yes that will be my next step I do believe you can get heat resistant stuff.

r2CQ5Pi.jpeg I’ve never seen so many cup holders!! Totally JdM! Even comes with a hardrive in the stereo full of Japanese music

I had been looking at Mercedes vianos, but they were terrible. Almost went for a Nissan Elgrand with all the toys. Decided to keep it simple with this beauty!

EDIT: running the 640d too, cheaper to run 2 vehicles than trade it in
White 04 Alphard crew

Hand mine 18 months now, completely faultless. Such a pleasure to do trips in, so comfy and quiet and great visibility, super smooth engine too.

Is it a 3.0l?

Reality if it’s mass to prevent the resonance something riveted or bolted on will work.

Yup 3.0 V6 it’s great!! Gonna take it tii oh a garage in the new year for. Good check over and replace anything worn out. Might get the timing belt done too (on 90k km’s)

Wish I could find time to keep mine clean at the moment. Looks great! Any news on your new order?

I didn’t go ahead with it in the end. The timescales talked about were daft and they couldn’t give me a price, I still don’t think there’s a final price given to dealerships. So I got my initial deposit back. Apparently a well specced one is going to be nudging £100k and I just can’t be dealing with that for a 4 door saloon

Quick pic from the other day when I picked it up, not had much chance to play with it yet as I'm back in work till the weekend. Not really planning on doing anything with it other than enjoying it for a while. Will probably swap the mirror caps to black ones as I think it'll suit better, but that's about it.
