Absolutely. I’ve only had it a little over a week, so still getting to grips with it, but the ability to just push the pedal at any speed and have bags of power on demand is lovely. That combined with the confidence inspiring 4WD system and the infectiously fun (borderline yobbish) exhaust means I’ve done 400 miles in every condition bar snow/ice and it has definitely delivered.
If its your only car, or performance is a priority, then absolutely a V10 or SVR will absolutely destroy an R8 V8. The V8 is no quicker than a 997 Carrera S, whereas a V10 is in a different league, the V10's also don't suffer coking issues that plagues the V8's.
R-Tronic - Avoid, but of course some like it, very much like SMG, Aston speed shift etc. Hydraulic operated clutch, so a manual without a clutch pedal.
S-Tronic - Very good, seamless but not much of an event, 8 ZF in the SVR also very good.
If your considering an R8 V10 or SVR absolutely try to get good seat time in both as they are both brilliant cars but also totally different, the Jaguar is more akin to a British hot rod, will pretty much beat any car off the line and no need for launch control, just smash loud pedal and its off, just avoid the updated cars that got the filters in the exhaust, they sound poor in comparison to the earlier ones, I think early 2018 is ideal as they got updated seats and LED lights, but were still properly loud, might also be cheaper road tax too.
R8 V10, planted and very capable, but for me is also what makes them a bit boring, but if your seeking a gen1 V10 manual, well I'd say that is where any ones sensible money should go, more engaging and in fairness even in manual form its not slow, of course S-Tronic makes going fast silly easy, I'd say the R8 has a sweeter handling balance, feels much lighter car, because it no doubt is and crisper steering feel.
Running cost wise though for the performance an SVR is absolute peanuts and seem to be quite reliable, R8's are more costly but there is plenty of specialist around.
The gearbox or the ecu or the something something decided that it doesn’t want to work anymore and being a jdm import and not sharing many parts with cars in uk means it’s currently beached and no one wants to touch it lol.
At least it’s actually broken now, not just looks broken
Well the plan was after moving the 458 was to not add anything else and continue reducing the fleet.
So much for that plan, lol!
I blame the Mrs as she was saying have you ever had an R8 and I was like I only like the manuals but they are always in boring colours and she was like but here is a purple one for sale.
Needless to say plan ruined and R8 purchased but no regrets so far it’s an Audi Exclusive spec car so purple velvet paint, R8 wingback buckets and extended leather with purple stitching and loads more options ticked including LED engine lights, superb condition having only done 29,000 miles.
It’s on PS4S and seems perfect Winter sports / supercar dependent what camp your in but it’s a joy to drive and I feel at the money I’ve paid an absolute steal and in a colour that is supposedly mega rare and on a wet country road drive today it was epic
I will admit driving it more and more, it has the Aston beat for sure, it is actually so good I'd say it also really rivals the 360. The real party piece I am finding with the R8 is just how comfortable it is and such a friendly car to daily. For me the only real negative is the infotainment system was bad when the car came out, whereas now its shocking, but in fairness an Aston of similar age is no better and the 360, well what is an infotainment system.
What I am discovering with the R8 is just how great it is at everything, comfortable, capable in all weather and such a nice place to be in. It is early days so lets see how reliable it proves to be, the Aston was great but its clutch did start to slip which for a new clutch, flywheel all fitted etc was around 3-4k from memory. The 360 so far has been spot on reliability wise.
Previous owner also had it ceramic coated which was showing this morning with some epic beading:

Yeah I agree above, I've not tested anywhere near as many cars as yourself but as a daily the R8 is hard to beat within that segment. If you can get what you need in the frunk, you're good to go.
My only complaint with it was the clutch pedal being too close to the footrest, 50% of the time I'd "clip" the footrest with the left side of my left foot when engaging the clutch, I tried to train myself to do it properly but my wide feet wouldn't have it. Wasn't meant to be a race car driver...
I never tried the V10 but on UK roads I never found myself wanting for any more power, like you've said before, you can enjoy the V8 thoroughly and explore its rev range whilst maintaining your license.
Haha, mates wife just ran it on the Audi system to find out what options it has:
Audi exclusive Velvet Purple
JN - Custom interior
Magnetic ride
oxygen silver side blades
alcantera headlining
Audi parking system advanced
LED Headlights
Bang Olufsen sound system
lighting package
DVD sat nav
Audi exclusive bucket seats

Just bought this, super excited to pick it up tomorrow. It will be by far the best car I have owned. I had my E92 335D stolen a couple of months ago, this will make up for it. Definitely going to put a tracker in it.
Just had the M2 detailed last week. It costs a bomb these days, and because the front end is PPF'd (which somehow had a lot of swirls in it) the cost was a bit more than usual. I feel its well worth it though.
