Show Us Your Motors!

Haha I get it... I do... I would also love many big screaming engined cars, I just have a hankering for an electric 348. Don't ask me why!

I would hate you forever if you bought a runnign 348 and took out its engine and gearbox, But i did see one last month as a restoration project which was missing its engine and gearbox, Would be fine to do that as an EV restamod

That's probably the perfect car for being battered in French town parking incidents.
Back in the 80s we were in Antibes and witnessed an older, well dressed and rather well to do looking lady, parking her Citroen. "So what?", you may think. Well this lady took quite some time to park, backwards and forwards numerous times and then one last big push in reverse to finally get the car parked in the space. She got out, walked away and left the rear of her car parked a quarter way up the bonnet of a Renault Fuego.

I traded in my fully loaded ex-Russian Mafia (no lie!) black GLS63 AMG back in May 22 and spent almost 18 months driving soulless crapmobiles in order to save money as things were tight. It was killing me as I am petrolhead through and through, I am a different person without a nice, fast car, just how it is.

It got to September 23 and I couldn't take it anymore, I was sick of being depressed. Cue my 3rd RS6 on the driveway by October. 2023 Vorsprung edition in Ultra Blue. The only bad thing is that there is a warranty on her until 2026, so no power modding :(. I still have my original, fairly heavily modded C5 RS6, but she has been sitting on the drive for 3 years now with a dead gearbox and a now-rotted coolant pipe right at the back of the engine -

Hi there

Lovely dry roads so had an absolute riot in the 360, also went to my mates to check over the alignment as I wanted to speed up steering response, car was on six minutes toe in per side, so requested this was removed and the front toe set to neutral:

Car is setup as a Challenge Stradale, just more aggressive, the extra toe out on the front has had the desired impact, also give Ferrari their due it was the quickest and easier adjustment ever on the front, rear was a tad more awkward but quite easy.
Just need to get some camber shims as want to increase the front negative camber.

The new toe settings are very noticeable, far more precise and quicker steering, which I really like, such an epic car on the road to drive. :)

where are these guys based and how many days did they need your car?
Were looking at getting our new cars detailed and coated when they arrive in June

Around the corner from OcUK - Stoke.
Well they had my car a couple of months, was a mates rates deal, but typically 2-3 days I think and £500-700 depending on the car and work required.

If you want rid of the C5 :D

If you want rid of the C5 :D

I finally came to terms with parting with her after owning her for the last 12 years, and put up one solitary ad on my specialist forums when the new girl arrived. I haven't advertised her anywhere else as we still love her to bits, our favourite car hands down. My work and family life nowadays are way too hectic for me to look at fixing her up again (she needs work!). I would have sold her a good while ago, but just didn't have the heart and wife was begging me not to....

If I was so inclined, I could part her out and make a good chunk of money, but life is too short for that! - https://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=144207

Always reminds of Layercake when I see one of those. Looks a bargain tbh.

@Mr Footlong - Awesome machine and well done for picking a proper colour!

Second photo does make it easy to identify where it might be parked though FYI.

Cheers but I am not worried. I work mostly at home and there are multiple motion-tracking CCTV cameras watching the cars at home and that exact spot I parked in at work. Barrier etc. too in a different part of the office car park where I usually park :).

That seems very cheap. (Also lol at your signature on that forum).

Surprised you don't just list the car for bits and do at your own leisure? Can be at your complete convenience here and there.

How much realistically would it cost just to have it taken to a garage and made fixable again? If only a few thousand Herr and there surely worth it for sentimental reasons?

Having the gearbox/Torque Convertor finally say enough just before/around the start of Covid was really poor timing. It was almost impossible for me to get the specialist I wanted to get the work done throughout 2020, then I was looking at uprated turbos etc. etc while the engine was out. A hell of a lot of things happened in my personal life between now and then too and it just wasn't to be.

A lot of NEW parts are not easy to get for these now as VAG stopped producing a lot of them and I just don't have the time these days to work on cars like I used to many moons ago. I am in a high-pressure job where I work and working 7 days a week a lot (I actually worked 37 days consecutively between late November and end of December for example).

I haven't found a local specialist that specifically wants to take on all of the potential work that I wanted doing, as I would be looking at going over everything, for a specialist to do that instead of a skilled DIYer is a lot of money, without factoring in potential parts. I don't have the time or inclination to pull her apart on my driveway and spend months picking the bones. Parting her out, there is a very good chance that she could clear £9-10k, but I don't want to be the one finding the time doing that or watching my old girl be torn apart by my hands. I would easily spend 5 figures getting her up to the perfect standard that I want her back at, if I wasn't lifting a wrench myself.

She is currently sitting out of the way on my driveway, under a cover now. I also have a modded 2003 Shogun 3.5GDI sitting at a random garage in Crowthorne with a dead gearbox (since 24/12/2022, wonderfully-timed!) that can't be fixed due to the gearboxes being so rare for those I am told and nobody wanting to do the rebuild work/the parts prices making classic VAG parts look cheap!

Assuming no value for sentimentality (which I place a lot on) you have a 5-6k price difference between parting it and just getting rid of it. For an extra few k I'm sure there must be a garage with someone that would take on as a project if you agreed they could take 6 months to finish it etc?

Assuming you're working that much I presume the money we're talking about isn't t huge for you. Just seems a shame to see someone really into their cars facing it going so sadly. Even fixing it and then selling it would be preferable.

Also don't kill yourself with your work. Been there and done that for over a decade and it ain't worth it unless you're making millions a year!
