H, £632.18 for 8bhp and a different noise, plus the extra in insurance for the mods, I hope you like it...
Chris

You have no idea how these engines work, go away.

A remap transforms them, yes it may seem steep. But the exhaust is still cheaper than Renaults (or not far away) and they perish damn quick.

Money well spent, if he is keeping the car for any length of time.

Gustov, nice clio ;)
As for the remap and exhaust, milltek are very good, the remap will improve fuel economy (is the 182 a fbw throttle or standard cable?), improvements to fuelling, midrange torque etc will be felt, its not much but its better than the standard car, through the gears there probably isnt much in it, but unless your ragging the car all the time the benefit will be felt more.
You wont get great gains on an N/A engine anyway (BHP/Torque) but you can improve drivability.
Next step would be cams but thats a trade off with low end to top end power, not always the best move :(

Tony:)

Come back when you have a clue what you're talking about. I can't be arsed explaining it all to you.

Hi, sorry, I said nothing wrong, my comment was I hope you like it was fair enough. I don't have a problem with what anyone does to their car, and if they are happy with what they've done then fair enough. However this is a forum and a place to debate if both parties wish too. I'm not wishing to argue. However it is also fair to say that if you take into account the cost of the mods, and the cost of the insurance if you declare them, 8bhp seems little gain for a lot of money.....

Hi, unfortuantely your assumtion is incorrect, I have a remap on my car and I know what it can do. However mine increased the power by 35bhp and the torque by 55ftlbs. As it only cost me £250 it was money well spend, and yes, it transforms the way the car drives. I thank you though for explaining about the exhaust...

And what do you drive?

I just paid £270 fitted for a genuine 172 backbox and centre, so I'm not to sure where you got that assumption from.

milltek are very good

Another for Milltek here, they are very nice.

I've just taken delivery of one myself for the quattro:

£600 for slightly better throttle response and a better noise does seem quite expensive. BUT HEY, AS LONG AS YOU ENJOY IT!

Exactly.

I think Chriscatt was making the point that it wasn't great value for money - which it quite obviously wasn't when compared to what remaps give some people. However, with the exception of remaps on a turbo car, car modifications are very rarely good value for money, but give the driver more enjoyment.

No need to get so het up about it

It wasn't £600 for a remap though, it was £600 for a cat back SS exhaust and a remap. Yes it doesn't add as much power as a turbo'd car, but people are missing the point, even if it added 2-3bhp its still worth the cash.

Fair play, I would go for the cheaper option (RS Tuner) but its still a worthy mod. It's not all about the BHP.

Do you notice the mid range (in top gear) is more responsive?

£600 is a lot of money for an exhaust and a remap for 8bhp gain. When I had my 172 (in 2006) I got a custom made SS exhaust for £270 and it gave it a 5bhp increase over stock.
