Had a couple of E46 M3's and what a stunning car they are, CSL is even better, but this is just another level in my mind and loving every minute of it!

Edited to make them 800 x 600

Stunning, my favourite car in this thread by miles.
Awesome awesome cars, the note of the engine is lovely at 8K and goes round corners like it's on rails.

The new one is meant to be even better

Neil,

Its very different to the M3's I had and needs to be driven in a different way to get the most from it. I have some track trips planned where I can begin to exploit its true depths but on a bumpy B road it probably would only just keep ahead of an M3 and would not stay with a well driven CSL unless the standard settings had been made more pliant.

On a smooth track or smooth road it would destroy an M3 but would have to be pushed close to its limit to pull away from a well driven CSL, and even then it would have to be a driver on his game. Those CSL's are stunning cars which the vast majority don't fully appreciate but the GT3 looks and feels on a different level which is why I went that route.

Oh yes, and get it over 6K and just listen to that flat 6 wail, completely different animal to the normal flat 6 in the C2 and C4

Nice car, Housemaster. Not sure whether I'd spotted you had that.
Posted a couple of times in the Porsche Defectors section of the forum, decided the go the Stuttgart route, finally. CSL was tempting, but GT3 even more so and I did the deal. Time will tell if I made the right call..

When I can get the wife into a big car and go back to a "toy" myself, I reckon the choice will be E92 CSL vs 997 GT3. It will be difficult, but you can't really make a wrong choice.

nice gt3 housemaster, whats it like because my dad wants to trade in our 996 c2 for a gt3 or gt2. i keep saying no because then we lose 2 seats and convertible roof but he is determined lol. Is it comfy, any weird rattles etc

The best way to describe a GT3 would be raw, or very raw for a GT3 RS. There are loads of sounds eminating from the car as there is very little in the way of sound proofing (it adds weight, which defeats the whole GT3 object!) so you tend to hear every little sound. The diff can whine and grumble when turning, the air intake can also be heard to suck in air in volumes too. As the ride is stiff you can also get the odd rattle on rough surfaces but mine has so far proved to be pretty rattle free. Brakes can get squeeky (I have a bloody stone in 1 disc which is going to have to go soon!) and grumble when used hard, but god it stops!

You feel everything. Drive over a pebble and its like a hill, and speed bumps need to be taken (or avoided) very slowly so as not to scrape the nose. If you want a raw, road/track based homoligation car the GT3 is about as good as it gets. If you want a quicker C2 996 and want to keep the toys buy a Turbo!

They are for the truly dedicated and would simply be to much for most people I would suggest. Mind you, on the right bit of road on the right day they are at the top of the tree! It is all down to how many miles you do and if you are willing to put up with the lack of features and lumpy ride, though I find my buckets to be very comfortable.

You can never switch off with a GT3!

I could not get a 997 GT3 NOW!
