Well, the 75 decided it didn't want to live any more on Sunday night.
No power to the fuel pumps, played around with the ECU and couldn't get a 12v line to energise the relay. Shorted the relay to get the pumps on, and still wouldn't start... something very amiss.
In the end I pulled the ECU from it's housing, turns out it's been sat in water thanks to a previous owner not checking the plenum drains causing it to flood. A new ECU is damn expensive, and a repair is £300 and may not work if the damage is severe.
At 6.30am on Monday morning I was on a train to Birmingham to pick up something I found the night before...
It's a 1997 420SD, with all of 84bhp. More importantly, it uses the old mechanical Bosch fuel injection system as used on older Peugeots and other bulletproof machinery.
Picked entirely for reliability, it's a dirt cheap runabout that does a surprising 55mpg even when plodding along at NSL-plus speeds.
12 months MOT, 4 months tax. Had a new clutch and exhaust recently... paid £400 for her.
Going to give it a full service, do the cambelts myself and chuck some Rover alloys on it (hate steelies!) and leave it at that. Although it can be screwmodded...
Slate away, it's a total shed but I don't care.
