Sold the Alfa and the BMW is on its way, so I thought I'd have a bit of fun this year and picked up an MG TF 160:

It's great fun, pretty nippy and sticks to the road well. Economy is great, lowest I've had is 38mpg, generally getting 40mpg and I'm no Sunday driver! (30k miles a year). Driving position is a bit high (I preferred the MX5 for this), but it's not a massive problem :)

i do prefer the MG to the MX5 in terms of looks. much nicer car imo

I think so too. I started off looking at the MX5. Basically I'm moving from having a fun car (Alfa GTV 3.0 V6) and a cruiser car (BMW 330d) to having just one (yes folks, getting married is expensive!) so I wanted something fun but still economic and safe (stipulation presented by the misses). The MX5 I liked a lot, but the MG is rate higher by NCAP and the mpg is far better (I do a lot of business mileage, and claiming back for it makes me money!). The driving position isn't as good as the MX5, you do sit a lot higher, but performance wise I preferred the MG. It has more punch and the engine being sat just behind you is grand :D Looks wise I do prefer the MG by a long way, and the ultimate deciding factor was the price. For 5k I got an 02 plate 160 TF with 29k on the clock, I was looking at a 97-98 MX5 for the same money mileage. Build quality, the Mazda has the edge, but the MG isn't too bad. For the money I paid I don't expect BMW quality plastics! I've had great fun with the car the last 3 months, obviously aware of the HGF problems so I do my best not to induce "thermal shock", but I've never ragged a car from cold anyway... I like my old Alfa better if I'm honest, but then a VVC 1800 can't really expect to trump a glorious 3000 V6! It's like learning to drive again, the revs are so different and a lot more important, and I'm still waiting for the rear wheel drive to reach up and bite me but it's superb so far :D

Yeah definitely - my parents have got a TF and I do really prefer the looks to an MX-5 and it would be my choice too

Nice car - as for the headgasket issue if you let it warm up gently until both the water and oil are at room temp before ragging it you should be fine. Keep a close eye on the coolant level - the under floor pipes can rust and if you let the coolant get too low this can cause HGF

Enjoy it! I'm sure my Dad mentioned something about a seat lowering kit so that might be worth looking into

Why is it I always buy cars belongong to marques for which the owners community sucks :(
We passed these Z4's on the day who had this 997 Turbo with them.

We also passed a vintage car rally and a bunch of Imprezas too. We should put together an OCUK drive out, or even just a stand and show event like the Retro rides event. Takes a lot of effort and planning for a drive out however.

Here's mine. Jap Import DC5 Integra Type R. Very rare, only about 400 or something in the counrty, and of those only around 30 are black give or take. Got some mods including engine bits, suspension, body and ICE. Running about 245 - 255 BHP. Revs to 8600 rpm. It's off the road right now having some parts fitted. Looking forward to having it back. Will do 1/4 mile in about 13.5, it will nigh on keep up with EVO's on the track and pretty much blow away any current hot hatchback out of the water. Not very comfortable though, but if I wanted that I'd get a Golf GTI. Total spent after car is in the £6000 region. Sorry for the poor pics. Search youtube for vids by MilanoChris for some that I've put on.

Looks nice apart from the big gay wing.

:D :D :D

Cheers mate. Most people don't like the wing in pictures, though they don't really do it justice as it looks amazing in real life. Then again, as long as I'm happy with it that's all counts! :)

I've seen far worse it just not for me as I think they look better without. Big gay wings just have a bit of a chav image sadly. My car only really has performance mods apart from my sexy red cam cover :)

My type 2 apex fmic should be fitted today now it's stopped raining :D
