*Show us your pet reptiles.....*

Not posted in here for a while.

Had to get rid of all my snakes due to change in circumstances but finally able to have some again.

Currently got:

Amazon tree boa (Halloween)
Garter snakes (2 Normal 3 albino)
Carpet python (Did have a sexed pair but one sadly died to what i believe was IBD)

Got room for one more snake in a 4x2x2 vivarium unsure what to get though

Some changes
When you put in a baby gecko they will show you all the design flaws lol
What I noticed right away is just how much space these guys can fit into. My biggest issue here was the warm/basking area wouldn't last him he would out grow his favourite spots.
So I changed it up and made it better, I have opened up and cleaned up the top area and also underneath I have made it much bigger for him to lay under the big slate.

Plants lol
Two are dying and I dont know why I guess its the heat? This is my first time using plants so its defo a learning curve.

Added more wood to the cool side for more place for the other bugs to move around freely.

New basking/warm hide - More space under the slate for him to lay up against to get the heat from above.

That set up is epic! Seriously amazing.

:D

Thanks - she is my youngest daughter's. We got her (the tortoise, not the daughter) in December

They are very easy to keep, tortoise table and heat / UV light which is on 12 hours a day. Hemp base (thick enough for them to dig / bury into) and some shade for privacy / from the heat / basking lamp.

They need fresh food and water (which they so bathe in) every day but we always have fresh fruit / veg / salad in, so very simple

We have been advised to not let her hibernate as she's too young / small. So if she doesn't come.out of her "bed / sleeping area" to take her out and gently handle her until she wakes up.

Lucky tortoise! That looks a really posh and good quality set up.

So it sound like eventually you will need to hibernate her when she is older?

I've been umming and ahhhhhing it for years to be honest! Lol!

Just keep reading different forums and the advice always seems to wildly differ on how easy and how expensive they are to look after and keep.

My pet shop is a a minute and I go in there every day pretty much and every time I see the tiny tortoises I just want one coz they are so cute and small!

Sometimes I think I'd like an African pygmy hedgehog too but I think they can be quite tricky to look after as well and you need to wash them weekly.

I'd love to see occasional updates of her and how you (your daughter :D) get on.

No probs and cost wise (after set up and initial costs) it's minimal (famous last words....)

No idea on the hibernating at the moment we have spoken to friends with tortoises and some do, some don't, so defo need further research and advice on that.

Same daughter also wanted a hedgehog but managed to avoid that but now she wants a micro pig (as well as the tortoise, three cats and six chickens)

Your daughter has impeccable taste :D

Apparently micro pigs tend not to stay tiny but you can train them like dogs!

Chickens are great though :p

I just popped into my local pet shop and asked about the hibernation.

The guy said that you can hibernate them if you want to but so long as she is kept warm, it is not necessary.

The only time is if you were going to breed from her. :)

Is your tortoise a master of camouflage?
