Shuttle launch STS-118 today

You do know bandwidth is only used when you're watching, don't you? :)

Anyway, you've missed all the good bits so far - best wait for the launch now.
Yep agreed. Love the close out.

The sensors disagree. Hope we've not just found our showstopper for the evening (they've had the same problem before, so maybe not).

Yeah, that happened with one of the recent previous launches too (memory fails me as to which one) - same place as well. Wasn't a problem then so I doubt it'll be one now.

At least they fixed the hatch.

What happened with the story recently with the sabotage of some cabling, was that directly linked to the shuttle Endeavour or some of the launch apparatus?

The sabotage was some deliberately cut wiring in a computer box that monitored some external sensors on the ISS. Discovered by Boeing in a backup unit they had in storage and reported to NASA, who found the same in the flight hardware. Nothing critical but would have been a pain to diagnose/fix on orbit, so it's good they caught and fixed it before launch.

Disgruntled Boeing employee apparently, or at least that's the impression I got.

Thanks for that, I got the sabotage bit right if nothing else !

I saw a bird fly across the camera!
Some of the cameras have nests in/near them. Sea birds probably. It's the price you pay for being in the middle of a 110,000 acre nature reserve on the florida coast. There's even been a bird strike or two on liftoff.
