Just wanted to give a heads up on this...
Shuttle have just put out a new bios which includes Turbo mode. This means that even though the machine is not overclockable with the H67 chipset the CPU will now boost to 3.8GHz (2600).

I have to say that I am very, very impressed with the performance of this machine. My setup is...

Shuttle SH67H3
Intel i7 2600K (Yea I know the K is pointless, but I had the chip before the shuttle)
8GB Gskill 1600 Ram @ 1300
MSI GTX 570 GPU @700 core
Vertex 3 240GB SSD
1TB normal SATA 3 Hard drive
BluRay burner

The machine does super-Pi in 9.25s
Copes with any game I throw at it at 1920x1080 maxed
Sits idle at 45w and full load at 290w

Its not the nicest looking of machines, but boy is it fast and quiet.

been thinking of this shuttle myself, always had shuttles and being limited by the one in my sig as i can only have single slot graphics cards, with BF3 coming out in October, i need some more meat!

its a shame as my current rig is plenty fast enough with an ssd in for everything else, just as i said bottled by gcard..

just looked at your shuttle collection! nice mate, had a few of them, sadly in the past i have had to sell them to offset the new builds, but married and working now, so my new build will mean my SN78SH7 will be hooked up to the tv

Hey Simon, I'm guessing you built that yourself?

I'm going for a very similar build (Intel i7 2600 & GTX 570), but I can't find anywhere selling the SH67H3 preconfigured with them. Any suggestions?

mate building shuttles is like lego, everything is already done and it comes with a picture guide. you just plug in the gcard, cpu, memory, hard drive into the only slots they will fit in.

you seriously cant go wrong

Hmm. I've never applied thermal paste before though. I can't mess it up too badly can I?

It it really easy. The shuttle will come with a little pouch of thermal paste which is non conductive so you can't really go wrong.

All you have to do is buy the shuttle barebones, the CPU, some DDR3 memory (ram), hard drive, DVD drive and optionally a graphics card.

The shuttle comes with instructions on how to put it all together, but it is very easy. If you get into trouble we can help you on the forum, but you should find it very easy.

yeah i have the forums loaded all day, just post if you get stuck, building a pc is harder and tricky the first time, but shuttles are just like lego.... you only have to stick a few bits in

I'd like a Sandybridge Shuttle and yours sounds excellent, my C2D is showing its age. Although the 500w PSU sounds a better option for longevity.

Any idea what the idle temps are for the CPU and GFX card please?

Also, like your collection of Shuttles, I have a couple of old AMD ones I keep going for posterity. :)

i have always found the stock psu enough, i plan to get this shuttle and also have no plans to upgrade the psu. 300w is a lot for a tiny thing. its been proved over the years to be good enough.

Idle temps are:
CPU sits at 35-39c
GPU sits at 45c

I have just tried running 3DMark11 to provide this information.
The machine is set with silent cooling in the bios and during the test the fan speeds of both the GPU and CPU increased by 1 level, but remained virtually silent.

Room temp was 22c
GPU maxed at 75c
CPU maxed at 64c on the third core

Please note that it normally does a 3dMark11 score at about P6600 - the image shows a lower score due to the monitoring running in the background.

Cheers for that, the temps look very reasonable, I would be more than happy with those. :)

The price of the SH67H3 is pretty good too.

I wonder if any more Sandybridge Shuttles are in development.

its always the way, there are later models out or coming, but this is a good price and im gonna go for it after the summer

simon what do you think is a good cpu for this shuttle, i want to get the best that can fit it, within price reason, but i presume i don't need an overclockerable one. (only ever had amd shuttles)

The 2600K or 2500K are useless in this as you cant overclock so the best to get are the standard 2600 or 2500, and OEM is just as good because you don't need the heatsink.

So best would be the i7 2600 Quad core with Hyperthreading which is 3.4GHz and turbo boosts to 3.8GHz

Next would be the i5 2500 Quad core (No HT) 3.2GHz (I think)

thanks buddy, thinking of ordering on payday instead of after the summer :)

hopefully they'll bring out some z68/am3+/skt 2011 shuttles that aren't too expensive :p

im not sure they will, but hopefully, its healthy to have competition i have always had AMD, this will be my first intel based machine (apart from laptops)

Hi

Quite fancy one of these myself, was thinking more of a 560 to go in as i didnt think the 300w would be anywhere near enough to power a 570 but thats great to know, does the psu come with one or two 6 pin plugs? got any internal pics with components installed? Either this or a itx self build but have to say I like the fact you can use a standard optical and card reader compared to something like a sg05 that you have to use a slimline

Just out of interest i see your ram is at 1300 in op, is there any reason for this? or is it just that there are no options to change it
