Shuttle SH67H3 Performance

for what you get for the cash is pretty poor.... having a mac mini for me would be just hooked up to a tv, gaming and programming on a mini sounds painful..

To answer the question about noise.
I find the SH67H3 to be very quiet with regards the ICE (CPU) cooler and PSU fan.
The graphics card is the loudest part for me GTX570 std nvidia cooler.

When watiching a BluRay everything remains very quiet.
Playing Crysis2 maxed out 1920x1080 I find graphics heat is a problem and therefore the GPU fan has to work hard and then it does get rather loud... But it is really only the GPU as I say.

hi SimonMaltby, from pics, the H3 seems to have a nicer aluminium finish than the H7? Am thinking of getting the H3 too. thanks.

edit: jimlad - did you get your bootup probs sorted with the H7? (is the casing in metal or aluminum? i know the front is in alu). thanks.

the case on the H3 and the H7 is identical as is everything inside. the only difference is the front. I paid a premium for the H7 as that is what i wanted. but it's personal choice.

yeah bootup fine, needed to tweak the bios and turn off some ports i was not using.

good to hear all is well with your build Jimlad :)

the pictures to the h7 make it look as though it's one of the older shuttles (without the nicer aluminium finish to it).

hmm.. h7 is very tempting but the price really does put me off :P

just my phone camera, identical apart from the front. i wanted the one with the hidden bays, but as stated you pay a bit extra for that. the hardware and everything else is identical.

if your not bothered get the H3. good buy for the money.

Did you change your psu in the end? I.m thinking with the new radeon cards coming out on 28nm and if the rumoured power draw numbers are anything to go by, then maybe 300w might be enough after all? :)

hi, no not yet and thanks by the way for your response.

tbh, i was hoping the front would be brushed aluminium as well.. but sadly as you say, it's glossly plastic?? (the sx48 pro/deluxe had a similar front where everything is hidden and the panels you press are actually made of brushed alu.. body obviously was just metal).

decisions decisions!! :P

plus... i still haven't sourced a suitable cpu (so expensive! :P)

Hi hans_solo,

sorry for not answering sooner...

Regards looks and the front... The H3 looks nice and the Aluminium front is good quality but you do have the front USB ports visible all the time which spoils the look, but is much more practical. The other point is the DVD drive bay. My plastic fronted DVD / BluRay R/W drive really spoils the look and I can't find a drive with a nice aluminium front to it... In this respect the H7 would be much nicer. I'm sure the H7 is all Aluminium on the front... I have a couple of other H7 models and they are all aluminium including the DVD and USB bay covers.

PSU... Yes I did get the 500W PSU in the end, although I still don't really think I need it. I decided to get it in the end because one of the H7 shuttles needed a new 300W PSU, so I had to order one anyway.

Ram settings in the Bios are really non existant... you can't overclock and you can't set Ram speed, so it will be at 1333MHz... Also the Ram voltage is at 1.55V, you can increase the voltage but you can't lower it.

Hope this helps.
