In my experience I have never had an unstable mac and the two PM G4s we have atm are fab, never ever ever had to reinstall OSX because it ****ed up, only times it did get reinstalled is for a new version, even then my dad just did an update and all is good. I've had 9 macs from a Performa 630 to a G4 iBook all fab
Don't need to run spyware checks etc, defragging? Nope, nothing it just works.
If I was offered £10k to get a mac or a PC I would have the mac every time, because it just works.
I've had HD failures in macs and in PCs, along with most componants, so you can't blame apple for that
I've used OS X and XP side by side for years, since I was 12 infact. OS X has always been the better system. Things are just easier to find and use. Infact I think OS 9 is better than XP. The amount of problems with XP is just ******* me off tbqfh. Only reason I have a PC is to play games and fold. Mac does everything else from work, internet, emails and backups - because I can trsut ti will do what I've told it.
So from my point of view is yes, get a mac. Don't get put off by the difference, after a few months you WILL love it. I've managed to switch 4 friends to 3 iBooks and a PowerBook
Edit: First gen macs are always flakey, combine that with a new system compilation and new componants then you are gonna have problems.
