Sigma 50/1.4 Art

i think he meant the Sigma 35 being £500.

I know, I didn't pay that much for mine though. I waited ever since the launch for it to drop below or pick up a second hand one. They are just rare to see second hand, which is a testament to how well liked the lens is.

I've got one... The 35mm was hardly seen at all on the forums second hand, and still is rare. At least for Canon.

There were a few floating about not long after release on TP. You can get it off the Hong Kong sites for close to what people want used over here which might mean people hang onto them but it's not that dififcult a lens to get. For the price the 50 looks a good lens that looks worth buying new.

Not really, there have been very few on TP, a total of 8 in the archive (Canon and Nikon) to date. It was very difficult to get second hand just after launch, which is all I have said in relation to you wanting to pick up a 50mm second hand after launch. If it's as popular as the 35mm it won't be found easily either.

They come up quite frequently on potn or other larger worldwide forums. I even saw one on gumtree local to me not long after release. You can even put wanted ads in to dealers to alert you when they come in. For me waiting until the hype has died down and the first batch is tested is always helpful.

No, they don't on either POTN or FM. Not in the UK.

Okay do this, take the hood off and look at it head on in front of you, say directly in front of your nose. What do you see :p

I'm curious now too. *looks for camera bag*

:D

Cor my gear is dirty after that gig.

You can buy them from Hong Kong or off forums from abroad. There are loads of forum sites to look on or dealers or big auction sites. Really you could buy a 35 from Hong Kong and probably pay about the same as a used one. There's no real need to buy used with the grey imports and you are saving a lot compared to the 35L. It's a no brainer if you are desperate for it.

Nice lens.

Raymond, since you've now got the Sigma and the Canon 50mm f/1.4, lets see some side by side real world comparison shots. use the camera secured on a tripod.

Something like text in a book set a reasonable distance from the lens, some bright lights outdoors etc., lets see what the new lens can do compared to the Canon.

I would but that's not exactly real world comparison :p There are plenty of websites that does that.

Real world for me would be using it in a shoot, moving, tracking, lights into lens, flares, dark rooms etc.

I do know that after using the Canon for 2 weeks in Hong Kong, I feel that lens' sweet spot is at 2.0, I realised that after about a day, it is VERY sharp at 2.0.

I give up.

You can pick them up for sub £500 used now. Keep your eye on the photography forums, dealers and the Hong Kong dealers websites. People buy into the hype and realise it isn't for them.

why?

the sigma 35mm is widely available on amazon uk.

Digital Rev have them for about £510 - hoping to get one in a month or 2. Don't forget Jessops are still advertising 6 months 0% interest.

I used this to get my Canon 70-200mm F/4L and very happy with the service & lens. Recommended!!
