Silent Hill 2 PC

And this one is a great recap on some key details that many inc myself will have missed, I especially like the car's back seat, that James has finally brought Mary to that special place.

The hotel room briefcase letter code also spells different things on each playthrough, likewise some other codes in puzzles are randomised on each playthrough so I guess with this in mind if a future DLC ever comes out I may well replay this game to pay attention to more hidden details.

Wait that's what the bolt cutters were for? I got that and wondered wtf, I also got the red paint and can opener and opened the paint only to be like wtf is this for

I ended up googling the code for the case in that room lol.

I'm loving it so far. Taking my time. Investigating everywhere. Now at the hospital. Man those nurses.

Can I ask, what is the relevance of those bits you can interact where he just stands there. What do they signify?
Glimpses of the past:

- Added support for AMD FSR 3.1.1.
- Added an option to enable AMD Fluid Motion Frames in the menu when using FSR 3.1 for supersampling.
- Updated Intel Nanites to support upcoming driver updates.
- Improved performance and optimization for Steam Deck.
- Fixed stuttering issues related to sky map generation.
- Added an option to enable/disable HZB culling to fix stuttering on some AMD/Intel GPUs.
- All graphic settings should be saved locally.
Missed this, here we go downloading again and starting NG+ :p

I uninstalled again when I found out that the save files were not cloud synchronised so no NG+ - When I uninstall a game I nuke every trace of it as the uninstallers 99% of the time leave stuff behind inc local versions of saves.

Ah well is what it is.

Traversal stutter going down the hill though from a quick test was much better, still some there but way way less and Frame gen seemed to mute it in practice even though the RTSS graph showed the hitch so all good there. Ghosting seemed to be greatly reduced to the point where I could not spot much leaf ghosting at all now in the carpark whereas you could before. This meant I was able to use DLSS Quality with Frame gen and get over 100fps at 4K all the time now whereas it was necessary to use DLSS Performance before to get that without FG support.

Steps in the right direction, but a step back for the game save issue and progress breaking bug...

How best to run this game?

Do I use native or DLSS? Do I cap to 60fps or unlimited?

What’s your configuration?
Use DLSS and whatever settings best give you at least 60fps. No need to have unlimited fps, cap to whatever is a bit below your GPU's max so it doesn't run at 99% at all times, gpu fans spin quieter, less heat etc etc.

Yes hence saying cap :p In the game you should know what your GPU gets max, cap the fps to below that, so if it maxes out at 90fps with dlss etc all on, then cap it to say 75fps. It will still be smooth and responsive whilst drawing less heat and power and have smoother frametimes.

I just turned VRR off for the game's exe in NVapp, flicker completely gone. Now this all depends on your GPU as more powerful cards offset any loss in frame motion smoothness and response is mitigated by brute force, so in reality you could effectively disable VRR in every game and has smooth frame performance if you have a higher end GPU and never see VRR flicker I guess.

@mrk Some great information and links you have posted in this thread. Thanks for doing so.
I don't wish to go through all the content, don't want spoilers, having just bought the game.
But did you find any particular "gotta have" in terms of settings or mods that enhanced your play experience..?

Playing at 4k with my humble, but extraordinarily good, 4080 :D

Thanks Mark.
Basically just run max everything and use DLSS. The last patch sorted out the frametime/stutter issues for the most part so can now just leave it on all max etc.
