Silent Hill F

I actually just finished RE4 Remake myself on a day off, I'm stuck between SH2 or SHF -- don't care much about DLC like the Ada Wong thing with RE either.

If you want more RE do not go for 3's remake, it's by far the most disappointing of the remakes imo, 2 is fantastic and will get you more sexy asian lady in a tight red dress.

She needs her own game badly.

RE3 Remake is disappointing yes. But still worth playing if you can pick it up cheap imo.

It's always cheap to buy, even directly on Steam :)

I think people have rose tinted glasses on when they remember 3, as I went back and played it recently, and the remake has only missed out: the diner explosion, where you can take the ladder into the sewer, or try and face Nemesis, the newspaper company fight on the stairs, using the fire hose before the hospital explosion, and the graveyard crappy worm boss.

IIRC I finished the game in under 4 hours, having not played it in 26 years... So it was always a short game.
So nothing of any real substance.

It is more than what is missing though. Not only stuff missing, they never added anything. And they also missed out on doing a good job of Nemesis. He is boring in this one.

What they should have done is randomised different areas he comes out in.

I much prefer the original, but still enjoyed playing the remake.

As i say, well worth playing if you get it cheap. Just go in with low expectations.

That's surprising, I've never heard anyone else say that regarding 'adding' to it - if anything people usually moan when remakes dare to add anything new/modern.
The only negatives that I've heard, is people crying about missing those few parts of the game that I mentioned.

I would have liked it if they had kept the run or fight choices with Nemesis.

You should go back and play the original, it's still good, but it is worlds apart from the original RE2 - that might change your mind about the Remake. As IMHO, both the original and the Remake, are not a patch on RE2 and both are very short - as I say, I recently replayed the OG RE3 in a matter of hours, having not played it for 26 years since release completion.

Yeah, it's always cheap, and always will be, so you cannot loose for under a tenner for a good 4-6 hours 'finish it in one' bit of fun of a weekend :)
The way I look at RE3R, is I play it straight after finishing RE2R, then treat it as a bonus DLC 3-4 hour stint, and take it for what it is ;)

Adding as in how they added to the original GameCube RE remake. That was done very well.

I have played the original many times. Actually, our chat got me to go buy the OG RE games bundle from GOG for £8.50. I usually stick to steam, but you have to respect GOG for making the effort to get these games to work on modern systems. I also just downloaded the offline files so can install it when i want without even needing the GOG launcher.

Anyway, there is a mod called RE: Enhanced where the modder used AI to make improvements. Looks good. I played the Seamless mod in the past which was also good.

I have probably completed the OG RE2 a dozen times over the years. As much as I enjoyed the RE2 Remake, ultimately I was actually disappointed. They needed to do more. I have spoken about it here a few times now in more detail.

I just noticed this is a Silent Hill thread. But RE has always been a lot more interesting to me than SH ever was.

RE3 was my favourite of the PS1 era games, although the majority tend to prefer RE2, Nemesis was by far the most interesting and genuinely intimidating bosses in the series in my mind and they flopped hard in translating that to current times.

Given how good of a job they did with RE2R, it just made it even more of a kick in the knackers when they half arsed RE3R to the extent they did. The only saving grace it has for me is the fact it can be had for a fiver, not a terrible buy at that price but for those that jumped in at launch it was a bit of a slap in the face imo.

Hopefully future remakes get the same treatment that 2 and 4 did, still desperately hoping for a properly done Code Veronica update which is easily my favourite game in the franchise.

Ah, I had the GC version, but never played it, as it was just the PS1 version, or so I thought. What did they change then? I assumed it was multi controller layouts, at best?

I did spy said GOG pack and have heard about RE: Enhanced :)

Yeah RE > SH for gameplay, but SH > RE for 'seriousness' of a plot - until they go and spoil it and troll you with 4 out of 5 **** endings - then you have to blindly look up how to actually get the good ending, which is a contrived load of ********, so thus it never happens and you just look it up on YT  and usually don't replay the game again :P

However SH2R, I have replayed a twice, thanks to NG+ and the chainsaw - I do believe that was my GOTY, the plot was so much more 'serious' and 'adult' than any RE game, that I've ever played.

Imagine if RE could provide that level of seriousness, and genuine terror/fear/disturbia - one day, maybe ;)

I loved RE3, but RE2 was the first one that I played, and it was bigger, multiple characters, and leeps and bounds more polished than 1.

RE3 was awesome because of the variety, as it took place in many locations.
Actually being able to gun down Nemesis at the multiple jumpscare parts, was so satisfying, as was wondering where you'd end up, if you choose to jump over a bridge or whatever versus face him :)

Yeah, I get that, but for me, I bought it on launch, and knew the original was short and sweet, thus I knew that it could never compare to RE2R, and was always short with barely any extra content after completion, so just took it as a nice bonus DLC to RE2R, whilst I prayed that we'd get a RE4R, and we did, eventually :D

CVX, is one of my all time favourites, I replayed it recently, upscaled to 4K etc, and it was glorious, and you probably know, it's the original intended RE3, but we wont go into that.
I swear they did confirm awhile ago, that we were getting a CVX remake?
I want that more than I need another 1R.

I think RE7 is probably the closest to being a flat out disturbing horror game, and even then it's not entirely there vs something like Silent Hill or Fatal Frame (heavily underrated series imo). I love the RE series but it's not what I've ever considered scary, hell I've found sub levels/sections of non-horror games more disturbing (The Hotel in VTM:B, or The Cradle in Thief 3 come to mind).

I don't remember hearing a confirmation on CV but I've had the memory of a sieve lately so it's possible and good news if so.

Leaning toward jumping into Silent Hill 2R and waiting for the price to come down a bit more on SHF.

RE7 was good in places but still cartoony/silly and nowhere remotely scary, just a couple of mild jumpy bits at the beginning, but it was still great!

Yeah, I played SH2R, having never played the original. It's awesome. The combat isn't amazing, but the story and overall delivery, is great. You'll like it. It's disturbing and twisted.
I'd definitely skip F, and get SH2R.
I'm looking forward to SH1R next year, as I never finished it, then SH3R, which is the sequel to 1. SH2/R is it's own story. So you can jump straight in :)

We must pray for a CVX remake!

I played the original Silent Hill games years ago when they came out, to this day I still think SH1 is the creepiest of the lot. I'll never forget going into the school and having to deal with those little kiddy monster things, wee' ******** were a nightmare.

Silent Hill 4: The Room I felt was underrated too, it seemed to divide the fanbase a fair bit at the time but I found it a really unique/cool change of pace.

Oi, SPOILERS!!!!

Yeah SH4 is basically what inspired P.T. and then RE7 copied it's formula.

Did you ever play P.T.? That was very good for it's time, and if you finished it properly without getting caught, it reveiled the true 'Silent Hills' ending/preview credits with Norman Reedus - then Konami ****** over Kojima.
There is a PC port of it that's decent, that you can still get - just make sure that you get the proper one and not one of the poorer fan-made copies.
I'm pretty sure the 'good one' has stolen content ported from the PS4 original. P.T. stands for Promotional Teaser (for a new SH).

Aye, remember going in blind and almost shatting myself in that bloody hallway.

10/10 experience, would play again while sat on the toilet.

Let's hope he doesn't **** this one up. We don't need a repeat of Daft Standing.

You don't want to spend 40 + hours LARP'ing as Norman Reedus being a futuristic human trafficker again?

Kojima is very hit or miss for me, I got Death Stranding for free and found it a chore. I don't mind story heavy games/walking sims but I didn't find it enjoyable, the entire thing could have been condensed into a 2 hour movie and been better for it.

It's so dull isn't it.
I think it was probably an inside joke to rake the money back in with zero effort after being screwed over by Konami, on the basis of 'people will still buy it, so **** you, look how easy I can outsell you and I don't even work for you anymore' type stunt.
As that definitely worked, and loads of loyal fans bought it, and the media was clearly paid off to praise it.

I too thought, why wasn't this a film, I'd watch it then.
The crux of the story was very predictable, I haven't even watched all the cutscenes but knew what the 'twist' would be, then red it by accident one day and confirmed it.
Imagine playing 2 of those games, you must be VERY easily pleased/bored. That's atleast 80 hours, as it's so drawn out.

If you want a really good laugh have a look at the "Directors Cut" version, which is substantially more money than the original even on sale:

DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT on PC includes HIGH FRAME RATE, PHOTO MODE and ULTRA-WIDE MONITOR SUPPORT. Also includes cross-over content from Valve Corporation’s HALF-LIFE series and CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. Stay connected with players around the globe with the Social Strand System™.

So basic features for a big budget game released on PC? They're essentially selling basic functionality as a DLC and the fans lap it up.

They'd be more accurate in calling the base game "Peasant Edition" but they'd probably pee the plebs off.

Jesus, I didn't know that's what the difference was. What a scumbag!
